Chapter three

Nashville grabbed her guns and shot back at the guards, stalling them from entering the house. While Nashville was carrying their loads, pushing Solana through the emergency exit route in the house, she was also fighting back. She managed to lock the steel door leading to the staircase of the emergency exit route. They got to the hidden parking lot and Nashville hurriedly pushed Solana into the back seat. She dropped their bags and guns in the passenger’s seat beside the driver’s seat. She could hear the guard’s trying to break down the door with a battering ram. Nashville did a quick turn and got the vehicle out of the parking lot. She sped into the road and quickly made a call. “Hello, Simeon. Is one of your toy jets ready for a little trip?” Nashville asked while driving at a dangerous speed. “I have enough toys and getting one ready isn’t a problem. I heard about what happened, are you okay?” The person at the end of the line asked. “I need to fly to Tiburon tonight, prepare the jet and I will be over there in 30 minutes,” Nashville said and hung up. Solana had begun to weep, Nashville ignored her and concentrated on driving. “Son of a b***h!” Nashville said through gritted teeth, she hit the steering wheel with her head and cursed, hit it again with her hand and uttered more profanities. “I swear on my father's grave, I will kill that bastard one day,” Nashville said. They eventually got to a place that looked like a hangar, though very small it had various assortment of jets. Some were being worked on by the maintenance crew and that created a disconcerting noise. Simeon was already waiting for them, he didn’t bother to ask further questions and just briefed them about their jet. “The fuel is enough for the trip, touch down here and I will come pick up the jet,” He said and gave Nashville the address of one of his hangers in Tiburon a. Simeon was in a black market of renting out jets to people who didn't go to a normal airport because they were either running from something or just wanted to fly a jet for pleasure. Nashville met him through a mutual friend. The place was heavily fortified with guards and it was for the safety of Simeon and his crew members, the caliber of people they rented out their jets to often brought trouble to their doorstep. After loading their loads onto the jet, Nashville grabbed the controller and she flew off Simone’s property. The journey was approximately 1 hour. They touched down in one of Simeon’s hangers, Nashville called Uncle Malachi, who came to pick them up. Solana was gradually recovering from the shock, immediately they got to their uncle's farm, his wife, Georgiana quickly took hold of Solana. She took her to one of the spare rooms in the house, which she had hurriedly prepared when she heard that they were coming. She laid Solana on the bed, placed a soaked towel on her head and gently fed her soup made of mutton, crab and pawn. Neither of them talked, there were still plenty of days ahead to sit down and properly discuss the tragedy that had befallen Solana. Outside the bedroom, Nashville was cutting wood with her Uncle, which bwere meant to be added to the house heater. Unlike her parents, her uncle wasn’t a rich man. He had a farm where he grew potatoes and tomatoes, then he kept a few ducks he sold whenever they matured. He had three kids, all of whom had left the countryside to go into the city to earn a living. He looked older than Nashville remembered. “You did well,” Uncle Malachi said and Nashville shrugged. She knew that he was referring to how she rescued her twin sister and prevented her from being arrested. “She is still wanted tho, the charges haven’t been dropped. I just wonder how long it will take them to know we are here. I didn’t mean to trouble you, I just had nowhere else to go,” Nashville said. “Trouble me? Why would you even think of that? I know my brother would have gone to any length if any of my children are in trouble,” He said and groaned as he lifted the axe to cut out another piece of wood. “Leave it, I will finish up,” Nashville said, and she continued chopping off the wood effortlessly. “What are your plans?” Uncle Malachi eventually asked after he settled into a rocking chair, while seeping beer and watching his niece chop wood. “My brain is fuzzy now, I will think of something when I get 12 hours of sleep,” Nashville said and her uncle nodded. “It’s past 4 am already, you should go and rest. The woods are already enough for us not to freeze to death in the middle of the night,” He said and stood, grunted and patted Nashville’s back appreciatively. “One more thing, don’t be too harsh on your sister. Getting rejected by mates isn’t something that one can easily recover from. It’s like a sickness and we’ve even heard of wolves dying after facing rejection. This is the time she really needs you. And I know you also know that she isn’t a weak wolf, she just needs time to come out of this shell,” He said and Nashville nodded. “Are you ever going to move to Belvedere?” Nashville asked. “Belvedere? Maybe when I was still in my prime. But right now, I don’t fancy moving to that werewolf colonated place,” He said and chuckled. “Are there many werewolves here already? I remember there were only a few when I moved here with Solana," Nashville asked. “Definitely not as many as Belvedere, that place is like the capital of werewolf cities. This place isn’t bad, the humans here are nice and we are able to mix with them without them knowing our true nature. Good night, Nashville. Rest well and get that 12 hours sleep,” He replied and slowly walked away. Nashville lighted the fire and sat in front of it, while drinking the remaining beer that her uncle didn’t finish. She wiped the tears that had begun to fall from her eyes. She was angry, and also filled with hate and rage. She hated Alfred for humiliating her sister, and she vowed right there in front of the fire to avenge her sister. Georgiana came out to check on Nashville and she sat with her. “You’ve always been super protective of Solana,” She said and Nashville shrugged. “She’s the only nuclear family I’ve got,” Nashville replied tightly, her voice filled with pain. “Do you remember the time Solana fought one of your classmates in high school because he called you a crazy w***e?” Georgiana asked and Nashville laughed. “She broke all his limbs, got us expelled and it was a lot of trouble to get any other school to accept us in the middle of the term after being expelled from a previous school,” Nashville said and chuckled. “Alfred had always been Solana’s confidant, right from when you were kids and they became closer when you both left this. I am trying to wrap my head around what happened,” She said and Nashville shrugged again. “She is the Beta’s daughter isn’t she?” “Yes, but not his legitimate kid. Apparently he had an affair some twenty something years back. How can Alfred chose that vile woman as his mate over my sister?” Nashville asked. “Alfred has chosen his mate and there is nothing anybody can do,” Georgiana said and Nashville scoffed. After sitting in silence for a while, Georgiana retired to her room. Solana woke up around 5:30 am, she had slept off after being fed the soup. She stood from her bed and walked out of the bedroom. She walked towards the main door of the house, the key was still in the door. She turned it, opened the door and stepped outside. She wrapped her hands protectively over her body and began walking towards the farm. The coldness of the place reminded her of part of her childhood. After her parents died, she and Nashville had moved into her uncle’s home. When they reached their legal age, both left Tiburon and went back to Belvedere, where their parents had lived. All the money and properties they inherited from them were officially handed over to them, and they were indoctrinated into the Great families society, to take the seat of their parents after their Uncle and his wife adamantly refused any seat from the Great Families. They would rather cling to their poor, hard life than wine and dine with the elite wolves. Solana reached the farm, opened the small gate dividing the farm from the residential area and she began walking through the fields of potatoes. The intensity of the cold increased and Solana wrapped her arms more tightly around herself. “What is that?” Solana asked herself, she stopped in her tracks and looked ahead. It was still dark and she could only walk through the fields because of her good eyesight. All she saw was a pair of deep yellow eyes. And the scent? The scent was so strong that she could smell it even though the creature was a few meters away from her. The ideal thing to do would have been to run, she just saw a pair of yellow eyes while being on the field alone, but instead she moved towards the eyes and as she further approached it, her wolf stirred. Then it moved, the eyes moved. In a few seconds it was in front of her. It was a huge brown wolf, the eyes was filled with intelligence, and something eerie. Solana couldn’t place what it was but merely looking into it made her shiver more. He smelt like wild flower, rain, and if ancient caves had smell, the scent of him would be what they smelled like. Solana tried to keep her wolf in check, but she was overpowered by it. And right there, in the middle of a potato field, Solana’s wolf claimed this stranger.
