Michael’s POV
She looked at me, into my eyes, and I could see the wheels running in her mind, probably debating whether or not to confide her problems to a stranger. And then she gave a small, weak smile and I can tell she had come to a decision.
“What happened? The worst thing happened. Everything was perfect up until this morning, and suddenly my happiness collapsed. Kate, my friend from when I was little, we grew up together, in the same orphanage, she was my only family, the only person I had in this entire world.”
Did she say she grew up in the orphanage? Which means the couple who looked after the children in the orphanage weren’t her parents? So she is an orphan.
“I never felt sad about not having my parents because Kate made me believe in myself, she made me believe that it was their bad luck to lose me, and not the way around. She showed me what love is when I thought the world is filled with evil and hatred, she always made sure of my happiness, she was like an elder sister I never had.”
I didn’t say anything and quietly listened to everything she had to say.
“Even today, before she left for her work, we ate breakfast together, we talked about her favorite singer, she was angry saying he cheated on her and got engaged to an actress.” Is she talking about me? And Liza? How much I wanted to clarify the incident and tell her that I’m not engaged to anyone. But why? Why do I care? Why do I care if she believes those rumors?
“An hour later I got a call saying that she met with an accident, a car hit her and she’s in the hospital right now, and the doctors are saying she will not make it…” She said that part and broke into sobs, her tears kept falling and I couldn’t stop myself and I put my hand on hers, offering her support when all I wanted was to hug her tightly to myself and protect her from the entire world.
After a minute she slowly wiped away her tears and continued
“The doctors said that a clot formed in her brain due to the accident and she needs an operation, they said it’ll cost a minimum of $40,000. They said she’ll not make it if the operation is not performed within the next two days, I don’t know what to do. I don’t have that much money, we recently moved out of our orphanage, and all our savings are spent on the rent and furniture. I can't even ask my dad, I mean the one who looked after us in the orphanage, we call him dad, and I can't even ask him for the money because he paid all the money he had for the school fees of the orphanage children. I asked Clay, my boss” She said gesturing towards the bar. Probably she works here. “for some help, but he said he didn’t have the money and just gave my salary in advance.”
She slowly put her head on my shoulder and despite feeling her pain and worry, I felt my heart jump, I just felt a strong need to protect her. I wanted to take her with me and make sure all her problems are solved. I wanted to declare to the world that she’s mine and I’d kill anyone who dares to hurt her in any way. And that thought had me stop. Mine? Why am I saying she’s mine? Why are my feelings so out of order when it comes to her?
“I don’t know what to do, I love her with all my heart, she’s the only family I have and I can’t live even for a day without her. I don’t see any solution to get out of this problem, but I can't let her die like that.”
And saying that she started crying all over again. I sat beside her silently, stroking her hair and her back gently, offering her some comfort. We stayed like that for some time and I wondered what it’d be having her like this, in my arms forever, and just disappear from this world. Live in my world. Full of love. With her in my arms. She slowly moved away and sat straight.
“I’m sorry, I just–”
“It’s okay, I hope you’re feeling a bit better after sharing your problem with me. I will pray for you and your friend.” We sat like that quietly, none of us spoke anything. She busy worrying about her friend while I was dealing with the tangle of emotions I was feeling right now. After some time she cleared her throat, pulling me out of the mess I created for myself inside my head.
“Thank you. I should get going, I need to go to the hospital. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye.”
She started walking away, and it took everything in me not to go behind her. I sat there and watched her until she was out of my sight before I went back to Diana’s. The moment she saw me, she was like “Mike what did you do outside, you look so... I don’t know, happy?” Okay, I didn’t know what she saw on my face, but whatever she saw, she was correct. I am happy after meeting my Angel.
And that’s when I made the decision. I want to feel this happiness all the time. I need her in my life. In my world. By my side.
“I just met someone special.”
She looked at me, shocked, but didn’t ask me anything, for which I was thankful because I didn’t want people to know about Rose. Not until I think clearly about whatever I was feeling about her. I called Lio and asked him to get information about Rose and send him a picture of her, the one which I took in the orphanage. He asked me for an hour.
I removed my disguise in the meanwhile, and I got a mail by the time I finished. He had information about her from the day she was found in front of the orphanage to her apartment address. He even got the information about the hospital in which her friend Kate, was admitted.
Rose’s life was pretty simple, she completed her schooling and started trying to make her career in singing, her friend Kate completed university and is currently working as a software engineer. Both of them moved out of the orphanage a month ago and Rose is working in a bar, as a part-time job, she also does small parties and functions as a singer.
Whenever she’s free, Rose spends her time visiting her orphanage. According to the reports Lio collected from the hospital, Kate’s operation alone will cost $40,000, summing up other medical bills, Rose will be needing a minimum of $50,000.
Rose has nowhere to go, no one to ask for help, and I know what she wants and what I need from her in return. If I could convince Rose to agree with my proposal, both of our problems will be solved. Yes, this is the only way to save my career and also to save Kate’s life.
I might seem a bit selfish while asking her to accept my proposal, there are chances that she might hate me for taking advantage of her weakness, but this is the only solution I could think of to solve our problems. She needs money to save her friend and I need a wife to save my career. Yes, this is the right thing to do in this situation.
Get ready Angel, I’m coming for you.
