Mr. Mysterious-Black-eyes

Rose’s POV: I stand in front of the mirror and look at myself for one last time, I wore a sleeveless black top, with a flared red midi skirt and high heel pumps matching my top. I am not a big fan of make-up so I went along with eyeliner and little mascara and with a baby pink lipstick. I took my clutch and went into the hall where my friend Kate is waiting for me. She is standing there in a black sleeveless turtleneck top and a white hem skirt with low-heeled sandals. She’s looking beautiful in this outfit and trust me, if I were a boy, I would propose to her right now. Kate is the only friend I have in this entire world. My parents left me in an orphanage when I was born and I met Kate in the same orphanage. Kate was 3 years older and is like an elder sister to me. I never had a chance to have a carefree childhood like the other children. I had to struggle throughout my childhood, I didn’t have a mother who loved me nor a father who would call me his princess and buy me ice cream. All I ever had and whom I consider my family was Kate. Kate completed her University and is working as a software engineer. I work as a part-time singer in a bar and sing at some small parties and functions. I’m not into studies, I always wanted to pursue a career in music, but it’s not easy to go into the entertainment industry without high-profile connections or money, both of which I don’t have. Recently we bought this two-bedroom apartment under a loan. All our savings went into buying the apartment and a good part of our future income will go into clearing the loan. Today is Kate’s birthday, and we are celebrating her birthday in our orphanage. “How dare you keep the birthday girl waiting Rosie?” “Sorry Kate, I was a little confused with the dress you gave me to wear, I mean, don’t you think it's over the top?” I said, looking at the dress doubtfully. “No, you look beautiful. Now stop wasting time, we’re late already, the cab will be here at any moment.” [horn-horn] “I think it’s the cab. Come let's go.” Kate was always a cheerful, carefree girl. She knew what she wanted from life and would put her heart and soul into what she was doing. She also knew how to irritate me. The most. The moment we enter the orphanage, all the children came running and I engulfed them in a hug. Then we met Mr. and Mrs. Kapoor. They are the one’s who take care of the children of this orphanage, they are the official parents to every child here. We all call them mom and dad. Though they loved every one of us, it was different. Not the way your parents would love you. I always heard that love is unconditional but the love of Mr. and Mrs. Kapoor came with conditions and limitations. And that’s what I mean when I say I never knew what being loved by your parents felt like. I arranged the cake and snacks Kate and I bought for the kids, they sang the Happy Birthday song while Kate cut the cake, and after all the children ate the snacks, we started playing games. My phone started ringing and since it was quite noisy inside, I walked out to attend the call. I saw Anna, a child from our orphanage on the road, feeding biscuits to a dog. Unknown number. Hmm. “Hello, who’s this?” I answered the call and before I could hear an answer from the other side, I heard a loud horn. I turned around and saw a truck rushing towards Anna. “Anna, move out of the way.” I started running towards her. “Anna!” She didn’t hear me calling her name. I reached there just in time and pushed her out of the way. But before I could move I saw the truck just inches away from me. There’s no way I can escape, so just waited for the inevitable. I closed my eyes and was preparing myself for the hit, but it never came. I felt being pulled into a body and fell on the road.  Everything happened too fast. I slowly opened my eyes and found a beautiful pair of black eyes looking straight into my blue ones, and I felt that everything around me just stopped. All I saw in those black eyes at this moment was...Worry. So much worry for a stranger. Never once in my life, I saw someone so worried for me, apart from Kate. The man had beautiful, long curls that fell over his face, and his long shoulder-length hair was pulled back into a ponytail. He had a mask covering his face, but it really didn’t matter, his eyes were so beautiful and had dark rings in them, and I found myself staring back into those black pools. I was drowning in their beauty. “Rose!!” I heard Kate shouting my name, and that pulled me out from whatever trance I was in. The man was still looking at me, and then Kate came over to us and helped me stand. “Are you ok? Did you get hurt anywhere?” She asked worriedly. “No Kate, I’m fine, and where’s Anna?” I looked around, to not find her anywhere. “She’s fine, don’t worry. I asked mom to take her inside.” I turned around to look at the man who helped me and was surprised to see 4 bodyguards surrounding him along with a man in a suit, probably his…manager or another bodyguard in a suit? Okay, it was like the man was some sort of a celebrity or a business tycoon. Before I could look away, his eyes met mine, and once again I found myself drowning in those black pools. “Are you okay?” He asked me, and Kate had to nudge my hand lightly for me to speak. Get your head straight Rose! It’s not like you’ve never seen men in your life. “I’m fine, and thank you for saving my life.” But before he could reply, my mom came and asked me if I was okay. And that's it. She didn't feel worried for me or didn't hug me, she didn't offer me any comfort. This is what I meant by love with conditions. I heard dad saying “Thank you so much for saving my Rose.” “No no, it's not me who saved her, it's God who saved her for putting a child’s life before hers. I was just sent to the correct place at the correct time.” My dad smiled at him. His manager was speaking to dad, and I was busy looking into those pair of black eyes, and then the sudden realization dawned that, if I'm looking into his eyes, then that means he’s also looking at me, and with that realization, I suddenly turned towards Kate, who was looking at me with a huge grin on her face that said ‘I caught you looking at him’. I didn't respond to her and she let the matter be. For now. Everyone went inside the orphanage along with Mr.Black-eyes with his men following us with gifts and toys. Dad said that Mr.Black-eyes wanted to distribute gifts among the children in the orphanage. He talked with every child and gave them gifts while his manager took some photos of him and after giving gifts to all the children he donated a check for $100,000. To say that I was shocked would be an understatement, no one ever donated these many toys to children here, let alone donate that big amount in the name of charity. And the way his eyes shined every time he spoke to the kids here, he had so much love for them. This man has a heart of gold. After spending another hour with the children Mr.Black-eyes and his men left. “Dad, what's that man's name?” I asked realizing that I didn’t even ask him his name, he saved my life for God’s sake. I could be such a stupid sometimes. “He didn’t reveal anything about his identity, Rose.” “Oh…” So for now his name would be Mr. Black-eyes, the Mr. Mysterious-Black-eyes.
