The dinner went well, with new mate bonds and friendships blooming. The Blood Crescent Pack had eaten their fill and had full bellies for the first time in years.
As the sun began to set, and the darkness drifted down to the horizon, the moon rose in the sky, shining bright with its fullness.
The packs became restless, wanting to shift in the full moon and take a run around the grounds. Groups began to set off towards the wooded areas, ready for a beautiful full moon run.
‘Aren’t you coming, Abigail?’ Asked Imogen sweetly.
‘Oh, no… I’ve never shifted before. I don’t know how. I’ll just stay here and help Hannah.’ Abigail responded.
Imogen looked at her incredulously, surprised to meet a she wolf who had never shifted to her wolf form before when she herself had spent most of her life as a wolf.
‘I can show you how?’ She offered, but Abigail was not convinced.
‘Go, Abs. I’ll be fine here!’ Said Hannah, nudging Abigail towards Imogen.
‘I don’t want to leave you alone!’ Said Abigail, worried that Hannah would feel left out.
Hannah chuckled in response.
‘You’ve included me in so much, but you have another life to explore. I’ll always be here. You’re my soul sister. Go and enjoy yourself, babe.’ Hannah consoled, and Abigail eventually agreed.
Jackson caught up to Imogen and Abigail. He was excited to see that his mate was going to attempt her first transition, and wanted to be there to witness it.
The three of them went to a secluded area, and he shifted as soon as they got to the clearing, lovingly watching Abigail and willing her to shift.
Imogen took her by the hands and looked into her eyes.
‘So I’ll warn you, the first time will hurt and y probably fight against it, but once you are in your wolf form you will feel so free and the memory of the pain will completely disappear. It gets easier and quicker every time so there’s no need to fear it.’ She directed Abigail to breathe deeply before continuing.
‘Close your eyes, and try to clear your mind. Then look for a light in your mind. Once you see it, go towards it and let yourself feel the emotions when you enter the light.’
Abigail followed Imogen’s lead and did as she said, finding the light and willing herself closer to it.
‘Do you feel particularly attached to this outfit? Because if you do, I’d suggest you take it off.’ Came Imogen’s voice.
Abigail opened her eyes and say Imogen stripping down, neatly folding her dress and putting it to the side. Abigail felt shy, but seeing how Imogen acted as if her human form was just a mask, she followed suit, but left her bra and panties on. Imogen chuckled and shook her head.
‘You’ll get over that shyness soon!’ She smiled.
Abigail felt vulnerable, standing in the moonlight in her underwear, but trusted that Imogen and Jackson had her best interests at heart and again closed her eyes. It was easier to find the light this time, now that she knew what she was looking for.
She entered the light, and was overcome with emotion. The pain of. It having any friends, of the fear of not knowing where her next meal would come from, all flooded to the surface and a single tear rolled down her cheek.
She felt a sharp pain, deep inside her spine, and felt a crunch and a snap.
‘Argh!’ She screamed.
‘Breathe, Abigail. The pain will pass. Focus on the light!’ Guided Imogen.
The pain continued and spread throughout Abigail’s body. It was everywhere, deep inside her bones, affecting every bone in her body and the most excruciating pain she had ever experienced in her life. Even her face hurt. The tears continued to stream down her face but she pushed through, until the pain eventually subsided. Her body felt different, heavier but stronger. She could feel the earth under her hands and feet, and the pulse of the earth travelled through her body.
She slowly opened her eyes and realised that she was looking at the world from a different perspective. It was lower down, but everything was clearer and the darkness had no effect on how well or how clearly she could see.
The urge to take off at speed took over her body and she started to run. Her body was propelled forward faster than her legs had ever moved her, and the feeling of freedom was incredible. The trees seemed to fly past her, until she stopped at the top of a tiny mountain ledge, looked up at the moon and the urge took over to howl.
The rest of the wolves gathered in the area below the ledge, and Jackson appeared at her side, nuzzling her softly and then joining her to howl again.
The rest of the pack joined in, before completing their run and heading back to the edge of the woods, shifting back and getting dressed.
Abigail and Jackson arrived back together, and he shifted first, holding her as she painfully shifted back to her human form.
‘That was incredible!’ She said excitedly, but noticed that a few of the pack members were whispering and glancing at her.
‘Wha-what’s going on?’ She asked nervously.
Jackson looked at her lovingly.
‘You are beautiful!’ He said, pulling her closer.
‘Jackson!’ She repeated, more urgency in her voice this time. ‘What is going on?’ She asked again.
‘Your wolf… is different.’ He said, and Abigail began to cry, thinking that there was something terribly wrong with her wolf and she was once again an outcast.
‘No don’t cry!’ Said Jackson, distraught at his mate’s pain. ‘Not bad different, incredible different! Magical different!’ He tried to find the words, but they weren’t coming to him.
Serena approached the two of them, after pulling her clothes on. She knelt down beside Abigail and smiled sweetly.
‘Abigail, your wolf is something we never dreamed of seeing. A creature of magic and great power. The Red Wolf!’
