Abigail fought in the man’s arms, but he was much stronger than her and her efforts were futile.
She eventually accepted her fate, and slumped, defeated over his shoulder. She felt his speed increase, and all she could see was the blur of buildings moving past her, and changing to the brown and green of trees. Eventually, the man set her down on the ground.
‘Don’t move!’ He growled. ‘If I have to chase you down and catch you again, I won’t be so gentle.’
Abigail nodded her head obediently, and the man let out a whistle. She could tell that she was deep in the heart of the woods, and was currently in the middle of a crude campsite, with a burnt out fire pit and strewn with logs and dented earth, that looked like spaces where bodies would sleep.
A second man approached the first. He seemed even larger and more commanding than the man who had taken her, but had a similar look with his dark, salt and pepper hair and his piercing blue eyes.
‘I have brought back the girl, Alpha.’ Said the first man. ‘She was more difficult to track because her scent changed. One of those dirty Silvermoon bastards gave her a mate mark!’
‘What?!’ Growled the man who was Alpha. ‘Why did you still bring her here? Her mate may come looking for her!’
‘Then we kill him, sir. They don’t come on our lands, it’s not a worry.’ He replied.
‘You know we are outmatched by them Remi,’ said the Alpha. ‘We are no longer young men and their army is much younger, stronger, and highly tactical in their thinking.’
Remi looked down, guilt on his face. ‘I’m sorry, Alpha. She’s ours, she belongs with us, not them. From the very first time I smelled her in the forest I knew she belonged with us.’ He sighed.
‘So she’s definitely the one you pack marked?’ Asked the Alpha.
‘Yes sir,’ said Remi.
The Alpha walked towards Abigail, and something about him felt familiar to her. Although she had been kidnapped, she didn’t feel afraid.
‘Where am I?’ She asked.
The Alpha chuckled. ‘Isn’t it obvious? You’re in the Blood Crescent territories. It’s where you belong, my dear.’ He stated.
‘Blood Crescent?’ She repeated. ‘And you’re the Alpha?’
He nodded, perplexed by her direction of questioning.
‘Alpha Caleb?’ She asked softly.
‘Yes, you know of me? Let me guess, those Silvermoon scoundrels have been filling your head with lies about me, to turn you away from your true pack? Disgusting.’ He started.
Abigail thought for a second. How did she tell this man, this Alpha, that he was her father?
‘No they didn’t.’ She stated, matter of factly. ‘Laura Moore told me about you.’ She continued.
Alpha Caleb immediately straighter to the sound of Laura’s name. His blue eyes turned dark and he lunged at Abigail.
‘How dare you use her name like that?’ He roared
Abigail was confused. ‘Like what? I just said she told me about you.’
‘She is dead! And you taunt me with her memory! Those disgusting animals you spend time with killed her, they knew I loved her and wanted to make me her my chosen mate, but they took her away from me!’ His eyes started to well up, and his face was a mixture of anger and heartbreak.
‘Why would you think she is dead?’ Abigail asked, wondering if her tactic of getting to the facts had been the correct way to go about it.
‘Because she never came back and I could never find her again. She left one day and I searched every day for a year. That is the only explanation.’ He said sorrowfully.
He suddenly noticed the charm bracelet on her wrist.
‘Where did you get that?’ He asked.
‘My mother gave it to me.’ She replied.
The confusion on Alpha Caleb’s face was apparent, and he clearly had a million thoughts racing through his head at once.
Abigail interrupted his thoughts.
‘Laura isn’t dead. She’s lived in Moonshadow Falls for the past eleven years, in her Aunt Hazel’s old house. She didn’t come back because her parents kicked her out of her home and she loved too far away, with no money to come back here until her Aunt died and left her the house.’ She said.
Alpha Caleb looked shocked at her revelation.
‘Why should I believe you?’ He asked, a small glimmer of hope creeping into his eyes, that he desperately tried to force back down.
‘What reason would I have to lie to you?’ Replied Abigail.
‘I don’t know, I don’t even know you.’ He replied.
Abigail stuck out her hand to shake his.
‘Hi, I’m Abigail Moore. Nice to meet you. She said.
Alpha Caleb stared at her blankly for a second, before letting out an anguished howl and dropping to his knees.
‘Are you…?’ He started his question.
‘Yes, I am your daughter.’ Abigail responded, not requiring him to complete his sentence. ‘And I don’t appreciate being kidnapped, you could’ve just asked me to come and visit.’ She said dryly, shooting Remi a look.
Alpha Caleb scooped Abigail into his arms and held onto her.
‘My daughter!’ He cried, and Abigail found herself reciprocating the hug.
‘Come back with me,’ she said. ‘See my mother again and make up for lost time.’
‘Oh Abigail, it’s not that easy.’ Said Alpha Caleb, despondent at the situation. ‘Our kind aren’t allowed in the town. We will be killed on sight.’
‘I’ll speak to Jackson, he will let you in and you can see her. You don’t need to be fighting. We can all live together in peace!’ She pleaded.
‘Wait.’ Said Alpha Caleb. ‘Alpha Jackson? You know him?’ He asked. Then suddenly realisation hit, and he saw her mate mark peeking out from the collar of her shirt.
‘Alpha Jackson is your mate?’ He cried woefully.
‘Yes. And you better get me back home before he comes looking for me.’
