I rest in bed as Felix plays with his toy rat next to me. My arm is extended as I stare, with fascination, at my large diamond engagement ring with chocolate diamonds around it.
It's gold.
I preferred silver until I saw this gold band.
A tap on my door startles me. I sit up and grab Felix before he jumps off the bed to greet Joseph.
Joseph closes the door behind him. "It's almost time for dinner. Put Felix in his cage."
I grab Felix's toy and dangle it in front of him. "I don't put him in his carrier unless I'm leaving."
"As I said, put Felix in his cage."
I study Joseph's poker face. "Is that Joseph-speak for you're taking me out to dinner?"
"You are a highly intelligent woman?" He winks at me.
