Chapter 3

JILIAN'S POV: I still can’t help but feel sad about everything Ethan and I had. Five years—that’s how long we were together, and he just threw it all away? I gave him everything he wanted. That’s why I barely have any savings. I always prioritized the things he wanted, only for him to leave me in the end? “Ugh, what are you waiting for, Jilian? Burn all those pictures of that guy already,” Ichay said. “B-Burn them?” I asked. I couldn’t help looking at his pictures. I missed him already. “Yes, burn them. If you can’t do it, I’ll do it for you,” Ichay said. And so she burned them. She didn’t leave even a single picture behind. She even deleted all our photos from my phone. She unfriended Ethan from my account and deleted his number too. But I have Ethan’s number memorized anyway. Ah, whatever. I’ll just forget him. “There. Get used to not having him anymore. And don’t you dare let me see you crying again!” Ichay said. What’s wrong with her? Is she getting tired of me already? Sorry, okay? My heart is just too fragile. AT WORK “Ms. Jilian, we already have the final design. Could you schedule our presentation?” Glenda asked. “Really? Okay, let me check his schedule. Hmm… Would after lunch work for you? That way, I can let Sir know right away,” I replied. “Sure. Any time is fine with us. Thanks,” Glenda said. “Okay. I’ll let Sir know.” When I arrived at Sir Dean’s office, he was talking to someone. Apparently, he needed sleeping pills again. So he still wasn’t sleeping properly? I wonder what’s bothering him. The hotel is doing fine, and there aren’t any problems. “Sir, would it be okay if Glenda’s team presented their design to you after lunch?” I asked. I really like the way Sir Dean runs this hotel because he’s very hands-on, and their hotels have qualities that other hotels don’t have. “That works perfectly. I actually want to talk to them too. You should attend the meeting later so I can explain everything to you as well,” Dean said. Our hotel already has branches in other countries, so whenever Sir Dean goes to Japan or Thailand, I usually go with him. I have to admit, it’s amazing how he manages everything, right? During the meeting, Glenda’s team presented their main concept. Sir Dean wasn’t disappointed at all. “Perfect. This is exactly what we need for our new branch here in the Philippines. Ms. Jilian, we can finally use the land we bought before,” Dean said. “So, Sir, the hotel branch is really pushing through?” I asked. “Yes. We have enough funds now. You know I don’t like having business partners, right? But Grandpa suggested that it would be better if we had one for this project. Just for the new branch, not for the entire business, okay? “He’s Grandpa’s friend, and he said he'd take care of the construction. I’ll just visit whenever there’s something I want changed or added. “I have a meeting with Grandpa’s friend later, right, Ms. Jilian? What time is it?” “1:50 p.m., Sir. Oh! I have to go, Sir.” I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to welcome Mr. Alcantara, the business partner of the Nofuentes family. “Welcome, Sir. This way, please,” I said with a smile. “Looks like they’ve got some eye candy here,” the man accompanying Mr. Alcantara said while staring at me. He looks like a creep. I wonder who he is. As soon as we entered the conference room, we immediately discussed the matters they came for. “Everything seems to be in order, Mr. Alcantara,” Dean said. “When can we start? By the way, this is Ken. He’s my son, my only son. He’s the one who came up with the plan, and he’ll also be the engineer for this project,” Mr. Alcantara explained. “I’ll inspect the land tomorrow, and after that, we can start,” Dean replied. Why is this guy sitting beside me? He’s trying way too hard to get my attention. “Hi,” he whispered. I smiled at him because I didn’t want him to think I was rude. “Are you his secretary?” Ken asked. “Um, yes, Sir,” I answered with a small smile. Something feels strange about this guy. Is he really Mr. Alcantara’s son? He doesn’t seem like it. AFTER THE MEETING “Coffee, Sir?” I asked. “Sure. Bring it to my office,” Dean replied. Maybe Sir is worried about that man. “Here’s your coffee, Sir.” “Do you think that man can be trusted?” Dean asked. “Pardon, Sir? Ah… You said he’s your grandfather’s friend, right? If they’re friends, then your grandfather must trust him. So I guess he can be trusted, Sir.” “Maybe. But his son doesn’t seem trustworthy.” “Really, Sir? Hehe. Don’t worry. I’ll keep a close eye on him so you won’t have to worry. Sir, you should go home and get some rest.” “Okay, okay. Thanks for the concern. By the way, your new secretary will be arriving tomorrow.” “My new secretary, Sir?” “Yes. You’ll be in charge of our new project, so you’ll need someone to help you with your workload. Just let me know if you’re okay with them. And if you’re not, tell me right away so I can fire them immediately.” Wow. He’s already talking about firing the person before they’ve even started. They haven’t even walked through the door yet! “Ah, okay, Sir. I’ll leave first.” DEAN'S POV: When I got home, I immediately called Bryan over. “What is it this time? You can’t sleep again?” Bryan asked. “Bro, I think Jilian likes me,” I said. “Wahahaha! Jilian? How did you come to that conclusion? Because she brings you coffee, worries about you, and sometimes brings you food?” “Go ahead, laugh at me. It’s not impossible, right? I mean, look at me. I’m handsome, intelligent, rich… I’m basically perfect.” “Jilian does those things because she’s your secretary! You seriously need to see a doctor. It’s getting bad.” “Besides, Jilian is perfect. As your secretary, I mean. And you two actually make a good pair. You know why? Because she knows how to deal with your personality.” “Wahahaha! You’re hilarious.” I gave him a sharp look. He immediately went quiet. “If Jilian ends up liking me, she’s going to be so lucky because she’ll have a perfect boyfriend. Ugh, why am I so handsome?” “Ha…!” Bryan tried to hold back his laughter. “Bro, do you actually like Jilian? Honestly, she’s the kind of woman anyone would like. She’s incredibly sexy. Have you seen how tiny her waist is? And she’s beautiful and smart too. She’s the complete package.” He was actually imagining it while saying all that. “Enough! Go home already!” I snapped. “Why are your ears turning red? Hahaha! You’re jealous, aren’t you?” “Jealous? Why would I be? You’re so annoying. Go home!” Jealous? Why would I be jealous? I’m a Nofuentes! Women don’t fall in love with someone like me. Right?
