Alison stood outside Noah's door, her heart sinking with each unanswered knock. She had mustered all her courage to seek refuge in his company, but as the moments passed without a response, doubt began to creep in. Maybe he truly was sound asleep, oblivious to her distress. With a heavy sigh, Alison took a step back from the door, her shoulders slumping in defeat. She felt a lump form in her throat as she turned away, her footsteps heavy with disappointment.
