The room was quiet, only the faint hum of the oven from Noah’s earlier attempt at cooking breaking the silence. Alison sat on the couch, her hands clasped together tightly in her lap. She had already said the words that had been circling her mind for days, but now, with Noah sitting across from her, his calmness unnerved her. Alison turned her gaze away, staring blankly at the floor, trying to suppress the whirl of emotions building inside her. Her voice came out before she could stop herself. "You know why," she said softly, her tone carrying the weight of everything unsaid between them. Noah opened his mouth to respond, his brow furrowing slightly, but before he could utter a word, Alison cut him off, her voice trembling with frustration. "Why are you not even asking any questions?"
