"The officials are here! I can't wait to check my mana! I want to become a medic, so I can help people."
"Medic? Medic doesn't receive much pay, unlike the warrior mages! I want to fight demon beasts and become a hero!"
", Being a warrior mage is more dangerous, though. I'm going to be satisfied if I can be a blacksmith or an alchemist. Those are rare, but make more money!"
"Hmph! Peasants always have the highest dreams! You want to become a warrior mage? Maybe in your next life!"
"You!"
"Come on, leave them; if you fight them, you'll only lose and cause more trouble for yourself."
"Tch, f*****g nobles, always looking down on others because of their high birth!"
"Just let it be now; when we become mages, we can do whatever we please, and even the nobles will have to pay respect to us!"
Alaric smiled up at his family as they walked him to the village centre, where the recruitment was taking place. His heart felt warm as he felt his family's care; everyone had decided to follow him and also wait on him till he was done with the recruitment process.
"You didn't have to come with me, mother; you should have taken this opportunity to rest," he voiced worriedly, and she smiled while patting his head dottingly.
"I couldn't help it; besides, your brothers and sister wanted to come cheer you on, and you know we can't leave them on their own for a long time! Or else they would cause trouble around the village," she replied calmly.
"Thanks for coming with me then! If I become a mage, I will definitely take care of you all." Alaric declared proudly, and his family laughed in amusement.
"We trust you would!"
"Nora!" A fat woman called out to Alaric's mother as they got close to the recruitment site.
"Mrs. Will, it's good to see you!" Nora, Alaric's mother, greeted him politely, and Mrs. Will smiled happily.
"It's good to see you too! I was going to stop at your place to drop off this basket of fruit once the recruitment is over, but there won't be a need. These are the fruits we picked in our orchard; they are delicious; you should taste them." Mrs. Will laughed and handed Nora the basket.
"Thank you, Mrs. Will; we really appreciate it," Nora replied politely.
"I can see Alaric is feeling better now; you got us all worried for nothing," Mrs. Will said as she pulled Alaric's cheeks.
"Do these people forget I'm an adult?" Alaric mumbled in his mind.
{Technically, based on the long life the people here experience, you are still a ten-year-old child in your world}
"You should have told me that earlier!"
{Does it matter? Enjoy it while you can!}
"Thank you for being concerned about me; I promise not to get into trouble next time!" Alaric smiled politely, and Mrs. Will nodded in acknowledgement.
"You are such a sensible child! Come on, go ahead; the recruitment will start soon! Markien will be joining next year too! He can't wait to test it out. I had to lure him to follow his father; otherwise, he would have been causing trouble here. I have to go now; Alaric, you should go join the lines too, so that you can return early," she encouraged and walked away.
Alaric waved at his mother and three siblings, then strolled forward to join the long line of new adults from his village and the nearby villages in Guv town.
"Hey weakling!" A taller, rougher boy called while poking Alaric's shoulder repeatedly. Alaric looked up at the boy with a frown, not knowing how to respond to him. He wasn't sure if the guy was a friend or foe.
{He is one of the boys who beat Alaric in this world to death} the system provided, and Alaric felt angered by the boy's presence. He glared at him, startling the taller man who sneered.
"Who are you glaring at? Are you trying to get another beating?" The taller boy demanded.
"Come on, stop it, Josh. If you cause any trouble, the officials will mark your face, and they will make things more difficult for you," one of his companions said while pulling him away from Alaric.
With one last glare, Josh walked away, and Alaric breathed a sigh of relief. He had never gotten into a fight in his past life; he was always working and had no time to get into trouble. Back then, he neither had friends nor enemies; he was just existing.
If he had gotten into a fight with that hooligan, he is sure he would have been beaten to a pulp.

Alaric read as the screen appeared again, displaying an interface that looked like a game. "Is this my information?" He asked.
{Yes! As you grow, the information will be updated} the system explained, and Alaric nodded.
Soon, the recruitment process began, and they were called into the tent one after the other. There are a total of five tents at the venue to hasten the recruitment process.
It was soon Alaric's turn, and he marched into the tent to see two men dressed in black robes sitting on a small square table.
{Bow to them; they are mages, and they are considered heroes} the system instructed, and Alaric did as instructed.
"Greetings to the heroes," he repeated as the system instructed, and both mages nodded.
"Sit!" The younger one instructed, and Alaric did as told.
"How old are you?" The first mage asked.
"I'm eighteen"
"Your name?"
"Alaric Wyth," he replied. The second mage documented it in a book, and once all his information was recorded, the second mage brought out a clear crystal orb.
"Place your hands on this; if it doesn't emit light, that means you are not fit to be a mage, and if it emits little light, you have a little affinity to become a mage; in that case, you will only be stuck at Tier 3 mage all your life, and if it emits a bright light, you have a boundless future," the first mage explained, and Alaric nodded.
"I understand!"
"Whatever the result is, you should remain hopeful and not feel discouraged; everyone has their own significance in this world!" The second mage was assured, and Alaric felt at ease.
He placed his hands on the orb. "Focus your energy and try to pour it out through your arm. Feel that warmth flow through your blood and let it flow out onto your hand!" The first mage explained, trying to guide Alaric in the right direction for testing.
Alaric frowned in concentration as he tried to feel the warmth. One minute he would feel it, and the next it would disappear, making him feel frustrated. The second mage saw him struggling and walked up to him, holding him gently by the shoulders.
"Try to relax and make the warm energy flow naturally; don't rush it," he guided.
Alaric let out a deep breath and closed his eyes.
{You just need enough mana affinity to get recruited into the academy so that you can leave the village. It doesn't have to be much} the system encouraged.
After much struggling, the orb lights up into a dim light. "You did it!" The second mage announced, and Alaric opened his eyes and then frowned after seeing the light.
"Don't be discouraged; there are many ways to increase your mama affinity... It's just a little expensive. Anyway, you passed the first stage! You are now a recruit of the Henarld magic academy!" The first mage explained and handed Alaric a wooden tag to identify him as a recruit.
"Be here at dawn tomorrow. We will set out for the capital; don't be late!"
