Getting to know Mea Part 2

1050 Words
Mea “What is your favorite food?” I asked. Just trying to open with a simple question first. “I enjoy pizza the most but also enjoy lasagna. My mother makes the best lasagna in the world. I never miss Wednesday dinner. It is a tradition to have her lasagna.” Aspen said smiling like he was remembering a good moment in his life. It was a genuine sweet smile and an honest answer. “Your turn.” I said handing him the paper. “How do you spend your free time?” He asked “My free time I spend most of it learning new spells or collecting new herbs from the forest. I enjoy being in the woods. It's quiet and peaceful. No expectations there and no one holding you to a higher standard than you put yourself at. My mother is very demanding on my learning schedule and I don’t get much time to myself. I am the strongest white witch ever. So I do understand the spot she is in but I wish she would listen to me so that I can do this without so much training.” I spewed it all out not reallying caring that I didn’t know Aspen. I just needed to get this off my chest. Aspen stayed quiet for a moment. “ My father had me trained to talk over as king since I can remember. I never got to enjoy my day like a normal kid. I had to be in my father's shadow with everyone watching everything I do. I found my own place that I go to and just be by myself. I have been going there since I was 12. It's also in the woods.” Aspen replied. I was happy I wasn’t alone in how I felt. “Do you have a favorite sport?” I asked him, trying to lighten the mood before we went back to more serious questions. “Yes I played football through school. My best friend Forest played with me. I was my high school's quarterback and I was really good. Got lots of offers to colleges but was forced to turn them down because of my birthright. Football doesn’t fit into that world.” He replied while picking grass off the yard and throwing it in the air. “What’s your biggest fear?” he asked me before I could say anything. “My biggest fear is having my coven turn their backs on me. A witch is nothing without her coven. I spend most of my time trying to keep everyone happy. I can’t tell my mother about being mated to Eric. My dad left us when I was little so I don’t remember him.” I said looking at the ground. I never did anything out of line or to make myself happy. The first time I even thought about myself was when I found my mate. “My fear is not living up to what people think I am versus what I can accomplish. I don’t think people actually see me as a person but just as the next in line. I even sometimes catch my parents having secret conversations with my friends about me and think it’s okay. Today was the first time I actually yelled at my father for it. My parents most of the time don’t listen to what I have to say. My mom wants me to be mated to high ranking she wolf of her choosing.” Aspen actually opened up to me it was nice having a conversation that was actually really. “What would you like people to remember you for?” I asked in curious tone. “I hope that one day I can bring all kinds together. I know that may sound like a trump dream but I have always been on the outside looking in to the werewolf community. I always wanted to know the other kinds out there and longed for something more in my life even before I found my mate. I want us all to work together again and prosper together.” Aspen said with confidence. It was nice to know that he didn’t hate vampires or witches. “I am happy that you have an open heart and mind. Not a lot of people have those things nowadays. I am on your side with this matter and will help in anyway I possibly can. I have always heard stories about all the people coming together and celebrating the blue moon. Now no one does.” I shared. “Blue moon what blue moon.” Aspen asked looking confused. “Every so many years there is a blue moon in the night sky. It’s supposed to be the most magnificent thing in the world and when all are together it’s supposed to bring good health, happiness, peace, and so much more. I read about in one of books in the library.” I explained he seemed very interested in the book and the blue moon. “Are you hungry?” He asked me. “Yes very hungry!” I responded with a smile. “I know lunch is going to be served soon would you like to go eat. Then we can go to the library I want to show you something.” He asked me. Of course that sounds good. Remember we have to act like we know each other.” I replied. “Yeah I know let’s go.” He stood up and gave me his hand to help me up. I grabbed his hand and he pulled me up. We walked the short distance to the pack house. I noticed that people were standing around and watching every move I made. “Everyone is watching me!” I whispered but knew Aspen could hear me with his heightened hearing. He started looking at everyone around us. He gave them a very stern look. “Do you all mind not staring at my guest it’s very rude.” He stared in disbelief. He was annoyed with how his people were reacting to having me around in their territory. It made me feel like I shouldn’t be there. I was extremely uncomfortable in this situation. I was always good with people.
