He noticed my staring. “What?” he said, his voice fairly catching in his throat. I looked over at him, lost in all that wondrous green, his eyes like two still ponds. “What what?” I gulped. Had I been caught? Would he run out of my room and tell the entire school I had been ogling his leg? “You were staring at my leg, Jack.” His gulp mirrored mine. I shrugged. I forced a smile. It came out lopsided, like I was taking it out for a test drive and crashed it into a pole. “Just, you know, curious about the red hair. So different than mine.” I could see his tight, little chest rising and falling from inside his T-shirt. He didn’t run away, though. In fact, he sidled in closer. I jumped when he reached his hand out and ran it across my thigh. “Yours feel different, too. Wirier.” I tentative
