This time she slapped my knee. “Such the drama queen.” I gasped. My mom had picked up gay lingo. What was happening with the world? *** We were on the road barely an hour later. By then, Ma had finally gotten around to offering me some coffee. Turned out, it was instant. Go figure. Then all we had was an eight drive ahead of us. Scratch that, with the dog’s bathroom breaks, our bathroom breaks―which never seemed to coincide with the pooch’s―plus lunch, gas and shopping―because who can pass up on overpriced dried fruits and nuts―eight hours somehow became eleven.
