3: Burning Disaster

Brianna’s POV Rising from my bed very early in the morning with a heavy heart, I went straight to the bathroom to have my bath so that I could meet with Alpha Roman to share the news of my pregnancy. After a few minutes, I got out of the bathroom and quickly put on a casual, red gown that barely crossed my knees. A knock sounded on my door but I didn't respond. Instead, I sat on my bed and wore my flat, black shoes, unwilling to give room to any delays. “What is the problem, Brianna?” Asked my mom who managed to push the door open. “Why won't you talk to any of us about this?” I wanted to scream at her and remind her that she was the cause of my problems; she and my dad. I wanted to tell her how much pain she caused me by forcing me to marry that man, especially now that I had his child inside me. But I didn't. Instead, I rose from the bed and walked out of the room. “I'll see you soon, Mom. We will talk when I get back,” I muttered before brushing past my sister on my way out of the house. Stepping out into the chilly morning air, I made my way to Alpha Roman's house, my heart pounding in my chest with each step. The journey felt like a lifetime, every minute stretching out into an eternity of uncertainty as I hoped to meet him before he'd head out for his usual meetings. As I got to the door, I opened my fancy, black purse and took out the report I got from the hospital when I went to confirm my suspicion about the pregnancy, just so he wouldn't think that I made it up. I knocked on the door and waited for about a minute but there was no response at all so I knocked again. This time, I heard footsteps approaching and braced myself to meet with Alpha Roman once again. When I left his house after signing the divorce papers, I made up my mind to never go to him again. I prayed in my heart to the Moon Goddess never to let our paths cross. Little did I know that fate would bring us together with the pregnancy. Yet, after I discovered that I was pregnant, I was hesitant to tell him about it because I wanted nothing to do with him. Even my wolf winced at the thought of that. “Do we have to tell him?” She whimpered. Sadly, we did. But the child was his too. It'd have been cruel to keep that to myself. When the door was opened, it wasn't Alpha Roman who stood before me. It wasn't any of the servants either. It was the woman whom I met the last time… Ivy. Alpha Roman's ‘actual’ lover. Perhaps, they were really lovers and it hadn’t been a bluff since she had clearly moved into his house. She’s currently dressed in one of Roman’s shirts and tiny shorts. My mouth twisted bitterly at that. “Hey. We meet again, Brianna,” she sniggered, stretching her hand toward me for a handshake. I reached out to shake her hand but she quickly withdrew hers and left me hanging. “What do you want?” She enquired, this time with a scowl on her face. “I thought you weren't supposed to show your ugly face in this house anymore.” I swallowed my spit just to remain calm as I didn't want any trouble. “I just came to see Alpha Roman,” I disclosed, keeping a straight face. “There's something I need to tell him.” “Well, Roman is not home. He left a while ago,” Ivy revealed. “Perhaps you could tell me what it is so that I'd relay it to him when he gets back or you could just walk away and get lost, never to show up at our house anymore.” I swear, I'd have kept it to myself as I considered it personal. I hadn't even informed my parents because I wanted him to hear it first. But the anger in my heart wouldn't let me be mute. I wanted to make her feel bad for embarrassing me. I wanted her to feel a little bit of the pain that I felt. So I told her. “I'm pregnant.” “I have Alpha Roman's child inside me,” I repeated as if she didn't hear it at first. “I came here to tell him that so we'd know exactly what to do about it.” Taken aback by my statement, she froze for a few seconds. Her disdainful demeanour melted into that of shock as she opened her mouth to speak but found no words. “You must leave,” Ivy blurted out, eyes lit with rage. “Roman must never find out about this, Brianna.” I let out a chuckle and placed my hands on my waist as I glared at her. “Why? It's his child that's growing in me so I think he deserves to know,” I refuted. “If you won't tell him, then I'll just have to come back and do it myself.” “No. You don't understand,” Ivy voiced, putting out her hand toward me as I turned to leave. “You need to leave the country as fast as you can, Brianna. This is bigger than you think.” “Why would I do that?” I arched my brow. “You wouldn't want to suddenly wind up dead, would you?” Dead? Me? I took two steps back and wondered what she meant by that. Her lips curled up into a wicked smirk so I knew she was serious. Was that meant to be a threat? I didn't care. I just wanted to let Alpha Roman know that he was about to be a father and if I couldn't do it in his house, then I had to find another way. For days, I tried to reach Alpha Roman to no avail. I called him several times each day but he wouldn't pick up until… “Hey, why won't you stop calling me?” He demanded in annoyance, finally picking up his phone. “I thought I made it clear that I don't want to see you ever again?” “You did, but this is urgent. There's something you must know and we have to meet up in person,” I urged him, biting on my lower lip as I awaited his response. “Fine. We'll meet in front of the Druid restaurant by 5 pm,” he finally agreed. “Don't be late. I don't appreciate being kept waiting.” He hung up and I let out a sigh, glad he finally agreed to meet up. It was only noon but I quickly took out my red blouse and a navy blue skirt and ironed them as quickly as I could. Then I put them on and waited, staring at the peacock-shaped wall clock in my room just so I wouldn't be late. Once it was 4 pm, I picked up my purse and left the house and in just more than thirty minutes, I was already outside the Druid restaurant, leaning on a silver Mercedes Benz as I awaited Alpha Roman's arrival. Would he accept the child or ask me to remove it? Would he deny being the father because he resented me? My heart throbbed as I waited for his arrival with each second weighing heavily on me. I glanced at my wristwatch and it was already 4:57 pm. He was close and I could sense it even though I hadn't seen him. “So, you did show up,” I heard him say and when I looked up to see him, he wasn't alone. He arrived with Ivy hanging off his arm and I knew it was a bad sign. “You thought I wouldn't figure out your wicked plans?” He mused, standing in front of me. I turned to look at Ivy who spotted a mischievous grin. “Ivy has told me everything,” he continued with a chuckle. “She told me that you plan to pin that pregnancy of yours to me so that I won't be able to get married to her. You informed me of how you visited the house even after I warned you to never show your face there, just to threaten her to leave my house— like your wretched self had any right to! You informed her about how the pregnancy wasn’t even mine, but you were gonna pin it on me anyway, how convenient. You can’t deny to not have gone over to my house, my gateman confirmed it. You want to ruin my name and that of my family , but you seem to be forgetting that I am the Alpha King of this city and I make the rules.” “No. That's not…” “You'll be quiet while I speak,” he commanded, pointing his finger at me in fury, leaving me to wonder exactly what lies Ivy must have fed him to make him act that way. “I won't let you drag my name into the mud, Brianna. I'd make the lives of your parents miserable before that'll happen,” he threatened, drawing so close to me that I could feel his breath on my skin. “You'll leave this country at once or I promise you, I'll run them to the ground before teaching you a lesson you’d never forget in your entire life!”
