Cade gasped. Rose somehow remained impassive. The Wolf Council was asking a lot of her and she remained calm. Cade didn't know how she did it.
She squeezed his hand. This wasn't her problem. She didn't need to take on another child. “Thank you for your recommendation, Council."
“Any questions?"
“No, sir."
Cade ushered Rose out. She must be in shock. That was the only reason he could see her being so calm. They didn't say anything until they were on the porch of his house. Rose flopped into a chair as if she couldn't go any further. He kneeled in front of her. “I can't ask you to do this."
“It isn't just your decision, Cade. This affects both of us."
He took her hands in his. “This was the last thing you needed today. I'm sorry. I've never heard them give a recommendation like that."
