In the midst of the commotion, someone had called for paramedics and ten minutes later the ambulance arrived and took Gretel to the hospital. The family was very distressed. How was this possible?
"Mrs. Cristina, what could Gretel have eaten? I don't understand. Poisoning?" William asked anxiously.
"The only thing my daughter had was a glass of juice brought to her by... Aurora," Cristina said slowly.
Cristina approached Aurora and slapped her twice. Her eyes were filled with tears and her heart was consumed by pain.
"What's wrong, mother?" Aurora asked in confusion.
"You poisoned your sister. You brought her juice. That was the only thing my daughter had. You wanted to kill your sister. She never harmed you, but you always wanted her dead." Cristina reproached, full of pain.
"Cristina, you're talking nonsense. Aurora would never be capable of hurting her sister." Don Henry said, frustrated by Cristina's words.
"Father, I swear I would never harm my sister," Aurora defended herself, still declaring her innocence.
William only stared intensely at Aurora. His fists clenched as he wished to slowly strangle her until she stopped breathing.
An hour later, the doctor arrived to deliver news about Gretel. When he faced the family, he removed his cap and lowered his gaze.
"We did everything we could to stop the poisoning from spreading, but it was impossible. Gretel has just passed away. I'm very sorry," the doctor said apologetically.
"No, no, no, this can't be, doctor. You're useless. You're good for nothing. She was pregnant. We were going to have our first child. It can't be," William cried in dismay.
"I'm very sorry, sir. There was nothing we could do," the doctor told him once again.
Cristina and Henry were devastated, they were truly hurt, their hearts filled with immense grief.
"You are to blame, you killed your sister," William pointed, barely restraining himself from Aurora.
"I didn't kill her, I swear, I am incapable of doing something like that, I swear," Aurora said with tears in her eyes, feeling desperate because everyone was accusing her as the culprit. Aurora was astonished because everyone blamed her for the misfortune on Gretel's most important day.
"I want you to leave our lives," Cristina said angrily. The entire hospital witnessed that tragedy.
Don Harry approached his daughter Aurora. It was clear that his heart was hurting, he couldn't believe that his daughter had poisoned her sister out of jealousy.
"Aurora, I tried to defend you. I thought that everything your mother said wasn't true, but now I see that jealousy blinded you. It hurts me that you are my daughter", her father's words pierced her heart like a sharp knife.
"Father, I swear to you that I have never harmed my sister. Her happiness was always more important than mine, all the men who approached me ended up falling in love with her and I always stepped aside." she reminded him.
"That's why you killed her because you couldn't have William, you're the worst, I hate you," Cristina said, almost going insane.
Suddenly, Don Harry began to feel a severe pain in his chest. He couldn't bear the weight of knowing that his younger daughter had killed his eldest daughter. How was that possible? He fell to the ground abruptly, making everyone panic at the sight. When they turned him face up, his eyes were open, but without life in them. Don Harry had died of a massive heart attack.
"You're to blame for all of this, Aurora, you don't know how much I hate you; you killed the two people I loved the most," Cristina shouted furiously.
Aurora couldn't believe what was happening. For a moment she started to feel guilty of everything that had happened. She carried the death of her sister and now her father on her conscience.
She cried on her father's chest while everyone pointed at her. He was the only one who understood her, and he left this world thinking the worst of her.
Now two people would be mourned, father and daughter! The pain was so strong that Cristina didn't want to leave the coffins. There were many people consoling Cristina, she regretted that they were going through this cruel moment.
"Mother? I feel so sorry for what happened. I loved my father and my sister. I swear I would never do such a thing," Aurora said as soon as she approached.
Cristina removed her hands from the coffin and slapped her daughter repeatedly. She didn't want her close, and she didn't trust her words either. "It's best if you get out of here, I don't know how you can find the courage to be in front of the two people you killed", William said as he approached.
William watched Aurora run out of the wake. He took Cristina's hand and helped her sit down. He was afraid she would die too.
"You must make her pay for the harm she has done to us. In just a few hours, she took Gretel away from us and now my beloved husband, we've been together since my youth," Cristina said with pain in her heart.
"She deserves to pay for the great pain she has caused me. She not only killed Gretel, but also the child she carried in her womb." he replied, blinded by pain.
"I'll call the police to have her arrested. She deserves to spend her whole life behind bars," Christina said.
"No, Cristina, sending her to jail would give her a reprieve, and I swear to you that as long as I live, she will never be happy, I will make her suffer this pain in her own flesh," William promised.
William approached Gretel's coffin; in his mind he swore to seek revenge for what Aurora had done.
