Jordyn POV
The next few hours flew by as if they were only minutes as we talked and laughed the remainder of the flight.
"You expect me to believe you ran bare ass naked through a fundraising gala cause a girl just happened to randomly steal your clothes?" I ask, shaking my head between laughs as he tells me a story from his youth.
"Hey, I was 10, and you asked me for an embarrassing story," he responds with a chuckle and slight blush while reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Alright, beautiful, your turn. What was your most embarrassing moment as a child?" he asks with a smile stretching across his full lips.
The captain's voice breaks in stating we are making our final descent into Pittsburgh.
"Whew, saved by the bell," I grin as the plane touches down and I can hear the information about the temperature and connecting flight instructions as the plane comes to a stop at the gate and the doors are opened. I stand and reach to collect my carry-on when his hand comes to rest on my waist, and he moves to tower over me.
"Hold on there, little one. You owe me a story," he growls softly near my ear. As arousal floods my body, I can feel the heat from a blush creep up my face. All moisture has headed south, my mouth suddenly as dry as the desert as I try to come up with a response. His nostrils flare, and his eyes seem to shift between emerald and gold as he pulls me closer in his arms.
"Mr. Masters, you and your guest may deplane now, sir," the attendant's grating voice washes over me like a bucket of ice water breaking the spell I was under.
"Umm, guess some things will remain a mystery." I quip as I reluctantly step away from his warm embrace.
"Thanks again for everything," I say as I rush away towards baggage claim, pulling a jacket on to cover my injury and hoping like hell my sister is waiting so we can leave before I make an even bigger fool of myself. This day has been entirely too much, and I am on sensation overload, I need to get away.
"Hey, wait..." I hear him call as I maneuver to get lost in the crowd. It makes me thankful I am short, and he isn't as I blend quickly, getting absorbed by the throng of people hurrying towards the terminal and tram that will take us to baggage claim and the parking lot. Squeezing into the tram before the doors shut, I close my eyes and can't help but wonder if I feel more sad or relieved that I will never see Grayson Masters again.
Stepping off the tram, I see my sister and nephews waiting for me along with my checked bag.
"Geez, woman, how much crap did you pack, and what took you so long? You are typically waiting for me with your bags, not the other way around." My sister gripes as she pulls me in for a hug.
"Nice to see you too, brat," I laugh, hugging her back.
"Come on, let's get going, I'm starving." I say as I scan the baggage claim area, hug, and hustle my nephews towards the parking lot. I can feel my sister looking at me as we make our way outside even though, for the time being, she is holding her tongue I know the third degree is about to start as soon as we are away from little ears.
We pick up food and make our way back to the house, and I can not stop the feelings of loss that are growing the further we drive.
What in the name of all that is Holy is going on with me? I can't miss someone I barely know. It doesn't make any sense. So why does it feel like I have left a part of my heart?
I shake my head, and focus back on the story the boys are telling me about a stick, a dinosaur, and some kid named Daire. At this point, I have no idea if the kid is a boy or girl, but just that they are a big toad faced meanie. I fight back a laugh and gasp with just the right amount of shock to appease a very indignant Baxter as he continues to tell me every reason Daire is evil.
"Wait a minute, this kid kicked you where?" I break in as Baxter pauses for breath.
"By the table, Lulu," he responds in a tone that says I should have known that.
"No kid, I meant... nevermind, and you said you got put in time out?" I ask, getting back on point.
"Yes," he huffs in outrage.
I look over at my sister, my irritation with the teacher rising as my mama bear mode is kicking into full force.
"What the heck, Liza, why the hell are we paying tuition for Baxter to be bullied?" I question my temper, reaching the boiling point.
"You and Don are really a pair. You know that he said the same darn thing?" she snorts as she goes on to explain the parts of the story Baxter left out like how he stomped the kids foot, pushed him down, and kicked him in the face. Hence, the time out and that we should be glad he wasn't suspended.
"First off, it sounds like this other kid started it, so what punishment did he receive? And, secondly they better have not suspended him for defending himself," I snap back.
I have always been more hot tempered in comparison to my sister, especially when it comes to defending my family. Ever since the time I threatened a mom in the park when her spawn hit Derek and made him cry, my sister has a tendency to limit what she shares when my nephews have been wronged.
She purses her lips, shakes her head, and the look she gives me lets me know I am about to blow my stack.
"You've got to be freaking kidding me? Nothing? Nothing at all?" I bite out, sliding full stop into protect mode.
She looks at me and then towards the backseat and shakes her head again.
"Fine, I'll let it go for now, but this conversation is not over," I warn her as I notice both my nephews staring at me with wide eyes.
My phone dings with an incoming message.
You still owe me a story, and I aim to collect it, gorgeous.
A shiver runs down my spine as I read the message from an unfamiliar number, recalling that I gave Grayson Masters my business card.
"Everything okay?" my sister asks while pulling into her driveway.
"Yeah, it's fine," I reply as I help the boys out of the van and start unloading my bags.
Derek accidentally bumps my injured arm, and I can't keep back the hiss of pain and shout that escapes my mouth.
"Son, of a...," I quickly bite off my words and dance around awkwardly trying to shake off the pain.
"I'm sorry, Lulu," Derek is watching me with tear filled eyes, ready to cry at any second.
Ignoring the throbbing waves that are making their way up and down my arm, I pull him into a hug and tell him, "Hey, don't it's okay, bud. It was an accident and you didn't know I had an ouchy on my arm. You're good, babe it just startled me,"
"You're not mad?" he sniffles back, wiping his nose on my shoulder.
"No, baby, I am not mad, and I didn't mean to yell," I tell him soothingly.
"Come on, bud, help me grab the rest of my stuff, and let's go eat, yeah?" I ask, distracting him.
He grabs one of my bags and runs inside the incident quickly, forgotten.
My sister pops her head out the front door and asks me, "What the heck is taking so long?"
I know it's not mature, but I stick my tongue out at her as I climb the porch stairs and enter the house.
We sit down together and have an uneventful meal all the while my phone is burning a hole in my pocket as I waiver back and forth if I want to answer.
You know you are going to answer fool, if only for the fact that he deserves a response and you owe him a suit.
But is it really worth pursuing anything with him. I mean, really, he is so far out of my league. Maybe he was just being nice.
Sure, and his tongue down your throat was just his way of checking your temperature.
I sigh as my inner argument continues, and my sister suddenly blurts.
"That's it, what is up with you? You've been acting weird since the airport, spill it." "Boys go play while I talk to your aunt," she directs my nephews in a tone that leaves no room for argument.
I raise my brow at her, I think she forgets which of us is older.
"Don't give me that look. Something is up with you, and you're going to tell me eventually, so it might as well be now," she snaps.
"Fine, but I'm going to need a drink and you will need the first aid kit," I breathe out as I remove my jacket and blood crusted shirt so she can see my bandaged arm.
"What the ...," she yells.
"Calm down, it's worse than it looks," I joke as I cut away the bandages
I fill my sister in on the days events as she roughly cleanses and re-bandages my arm.
"Jesus, woman, should I expect to get feeling back in my arm anytime soon," I say as I adjust the elastic bandage she was using as more of a tourniquet than a wrap.
"You mean to tell me a crazy woman almost ripped off your arm, and you walked away." My sister is stomping back and forth across the room. Apparently, we both have mama bear syndrome.
"I'm calling mom," she grits out as she starts searching for her phone. " Boys, do you have my phone?" she yells down the stairs. "Never mind, give me your phone," she barks at me.
I flop back on her bed with a heavy sigh, keeping my phone out of her grasp.
"Don't call mom," I breathe out in exasperation. "First of all, there is nothing to be done, second this is the first vacation her and dad have had in over a decade, and finally I'm a grown woman if I choose to let it go that is my business."
"Sure, it's okay for someone to do something wrong to you, but you want to go beat up a "Karen" in the park and jaw-jack a kid's parents cause their kid is a prick. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense." she tries to argue.
I raise my brow at her, and she stops pacing as her husband walks into the room and says, "Your sister hasn't even been here three hours. How are the two of you fighting already?"
"It's her," we say simultaneously.
"We're not fighting, and no, it's not, it's you," we again blurt at the same time.
My poor brother in law just looks at each of us, shakes his head, and walks back out of the room, mumbling to himself about marrying into a family of crazy women. We watch him walk out, and we look at each other and burst out laughing. Hmm, maybe we are a bit much.
"If discussing the b***h is off the table start spilling on the billionaire," my sister states as she come to sit with me on her bed.
"Honestly, there's not much to tell." I reply.
"I'm throwing the bullshit flag. You're blushing spill it," she presses.
"Seriously, there's nothing, he stepped in and helped me out a couple of times." I say, hoping she'll drop it.
"Uh huh, sure, and by the way you're avoiding eye contact, I know there's more. Helped you out how? Like out of your clothes? You hussy, you," she whispers, leaning closer, making me laugh at her antics.
We are both cracking up now, and to think we are this goofy even without her edibles. Despite the crappy start of my day, I knew being with my sister would turn it around. As my phone pings with a new message, she snatches it out of my hand and plays the voice note.
"I like to hunt little one, challenge accepted, " Grayson's deep voice rumbles from my phone and causes the hair to rise on the back of my neck like a jolt of electricity.
"Holy s**t, I think I just came a little," my sister blurts out. "If the rest of him matches the voice, you are a lucky, lucky bitch."
I grab my phone back and stick it in my pocket I don't even know how to respond to him, or my crazy ass sister. I do know one thing whether I meant to challenge him or not, I don't think I'll get very far.
