Chapter 4: Kage’s POV:

“Hey, names Kage. Gotta minute to talk?” I grab Connor roughly shoving him from the crowd. “What the f*ck is your problem?!” Connor huffed out. “Oh, Alpha Chris’s boy. I’m Beta Joseph’s son.” Connor had a sly smirk on his face. If only he knew it was taking everything to not let my wolf rip his face off. “Tell me, why do you think you can manhandle me in front of my pack?” Connor looked at me, his eyes growing darker. “Your pack? Does Alpha Sean know he’s stepping down and allowing a pathetic excuse for a wolf step up as Alpha?

Connor stood there, stunned. His wolf staring at mine, ready to just attack. When I felt warm eyes watching me and her scent filling my nose. We both turn our heads and stare as Mayla stood there with a confused look on her face watching us. Sh*t she is going to think something is up with us. “She’s beautiful isn’t she?” Connor growls out, I grow stiff. “She has been chasing me for years.” Connor kept going with his taunts. I watched as she turned her head and walked away. A piece of me leaving with her.

“She’s fire and she’s mine.” Connor is staring directly in my eyes, his wolf pacing behind his eyes. “So don’t go near her, or your warm welcome turns into a goodbye.” Connor pushes me. I grin, an evil grin. “Let me get this straight, you place claim on a girl who doesn’t want you, you grab her and touch her after she’s threatened your life, then a threaten a Alpha’s son?” I stood there, my arms crossed at my chest, daring him to keep going. “She has wanted every touch, she practically begs for me. I don’t care who’s son you are, I am the Beta’s son. I have free range.” Connor smiled and turns to leave. I grab his shoulder and talk into his ear, “I don’t care who’s son you are, how close you are with the Alpha or what possesses you to think I am going anywhere. I promise you, you continue to touch, look, breathe or ever go in Mayla’s direction, the video of her beating the s**t out of you will go all over this town. Then it will go to council, with a smile on my face.” I release his shoulder and smile as he turns around.

“Oh big talk, for a wolf chased out of his own pack. Listen, once I’m done with Mayla, you can have her. But she’s mine until I’m done with her. You can tell me how I taste after I toss her away.” Connor’s sly smirk is back and I see red. “KAGE!” I hear my father call over the mind-link just as I am about to rip off Connor’s head. “We can handle him later, do not take another step towards him.” My wolf is tearing to be released. “She isn’t a game Connor, she is a person. Respect her.” I growl so deep Connor’s wolf even backs away. I turn and head out of the hall. I need air and to rip something apart.

It was getting closer to seeing Mayla and I knew she saw me interacting with Connor. I needed him to know that I will ensure he is handled if he ever touches Mayla or threatens her again. This morning at the meeting, seeing him grab her and drag her. I was about to end it all right there. But then Mar grabbed my arm and stopped me. She knew I was enraged.

“Hey, you ok man? You have been a little off since this morning.” Trey stood beside me. “Ya, just hate the guys in this town thinking they can do whatever they want.” I answer with a sternness behind my voice. “Ya, I heard it was rough. Finn said you talked to that guy Connor.” Trey stood there with a puzzled look on his face. “Ya, he is a prick.” I answered short and gave no more reason as to why I had confronted Connor. Truth is, I haven’t told any of the guys about my encounter the other night with Connor.

I needed to make sure I wouldn’t upset Mayla. I could tell she was getting mad during the meeting this morning. Girls were gawking over me and her wolf became enraged. My eyes were only for her, something about her, I needed to be close and protect her.

“What did he do?” forgetting Trey was there staring at me with wondering eyes. I have to admit, I know if I really needed help, Trey, Dex and Finn would be there. “He thinks as Beta’s son, he can do whatever it is he wants and not have any consequences.” I wasn’t lying nor hiding a truth. That is something he told me during our talk this morning.

Trey went to push on, as if he could tell there was more that needed talked about, but then I caught a scent and my head become intoxicated. Mayla. Trey’s head turned before mine did. What is that about? Mayla and Leah were walking towards us, smile on Leah’s face and stress on Mayla’s. Was she worried about Connor’s and I’s interaction earlier? I needed to speak to her, alone.

“Hey May.” Finn smiled and pulled her into a hug, “Lee.” he smirked and hugged her. “Told you Finn, next time you call me that, I am ripping your d**k off.” Leah glared at Finn. Ah, so Leah and Mayla are alike, a lot. Mayla smiled at Leah with pride. “Careful Finny, she hasn’t been fed recently.” Mayla laughs out. “We talked about this, fed her then come over.” Finn barks out playfully. “I haven’t either.” Mayla smiles a vicious smile.

Finn looks between the two of them and smiles, he turns around and shifts taking off. “Run Finny boy!” Dexter howlers after him laughing. Mayla and Leah look at each other, nods their heads and shift. This just became an interesting game and I wasn’t going to miss any of it. As if the other two could hear me we all shift as the same time and take off after the girls. The talk can with Mayla can wait until after there is food in her system.

I’m right behind Mayla watching her wolf carelessly run free. Even in wolf form she stands out with her beauty. Her long brown fur, the beautiful markings on her. Step for step I follow her. It doesn’t take long for us to catch up to Finn. Mayla and Leah’s wolf jump around him playfully and knock him down. “Got you Finny boy.” I hear them say through the mind-link. Now that my family and I have been accepted into the Sunflower pack we can hear their pack.

Finn’s wolf shakes his head “Alright I’ll feed you two, just leave my limbs alone.” As if they just won a battle both Mayla and Leah’s wolf hold their heads up with pride and trout away towards Finn’s house. “Feed me, then we can run. I want to go see the lake too please.” Mayla’s wolf pounts. She couldn’t be more perfect. “Yes ma’am, food then the lake. Or we can take food to the lake.” Finn’s wolf c***s his head side ways looking at her. Mayla’s wolf starts jumping around and lightly nipping at Finn. “Alright guess we are doing that.” Finn’s wolf nudges his head pushing Mayla forward. We all take off toward his house.

We are just about to Finn’s when Mayla stops immediately. Leah and Mayla look at each other, Mayla’s nose goes in the air and her wolf starts sniffing like it’s the first time she’s ever smelled before. Then both Leah and Mayla took off. “Sh*t!” Finn yells and takes off after them. What just happened? Dex, Trey and I follow behind Finn, whatever is happening, Mayla and Leah are not slowing down. “What is happening?” I send out through mind-link, “My dad” is all Mayla said. Then I smelled the fire.

Mayla shifted, not even caring at this point that she was completely naked. She takes off towards the house and starts screaming for her mom and brother. She is screaming some else’s name too. I am not sure who Jarred is, but she is also yelling for him. Leah disappeared at some point and has shifted and was clothed. She tossed some clothes at Mayla, throwing on a hoodie and some leggings. Mayla put her long brown hair in a ponytail and started climbing the side of the house.

“May! We are over here, we are fine.” Cole came running over to her. He saw Dex, Finn, Trey and I watching as we were still in wolf form. Mayla points at each of us saying our names. “For extra clothes for them?” Cole runs to a barn and comes back setting the clothes down before turning his attention back to Mayla. We all shift and throw sweats and a hoodie on. Mayla glanced my way for a split second before talking more to Cole.

“We were running about to grab some food at Finn’s, then Jarred mind-linked me. Is he ok? Where is he?” Mayla is frantic looking around for Jarred. Just then a little boy about 10 came running over to them. “Jarred, are you ok? Are you hurt?” Mayla starts overlooking Jarred before pulling him into a hug and holding him. “I’m fine, but dad isn’t. We were outside playing when Cole smelled the smoke.” Jarred stared into Mayla’s eyes, tears building up as he smoke of what happened.

“Dad will be ok, he’s a tough wolf. He will heal quickly, is he at the hospital?” Mayla holds Jarred against her looking at Cole. “Ya, mom is with him.” Cole looks at the house and back and Mayla. “Why don’t you take Jarred and I’ll fix this.” Cole points at the house. Mayla nodded her head before hugging Cole. Cole hugged both Leah and Jarred and waved as they walked towards us. “Thank you for the clothes.” I spoke towards Cole, he looked at me and nodded his head. “Don’t mention it.” “Do you want to go to Finn’s and get some food then we will go to the lake?” Jarred shook his head with excitement as Mayla took his hand.

“These are my friends Kage, Trey and Dexter.” Mayla said towards Jarred, “This is our little brother Jarred.” Mayla said beaming with pride looking at him. “I’m not so little anymore, I bet I could outrun you both!” Jarred smiled. Mayla, Leah and Jarred went behind trees to take off the clothes and shift. Mayla’s wolf came walking up to me, with clothes in her mouth. “Can you hold these please?” She mind-linked me using her big puppy dog eyes I grabbed the clothes from the wolf’s mouth. “Yes absolutely.” I smiled.

“Ready, set, go!” Finn yelled out as the three wolf’s took off. I don’t know how she does it, but she made her brother forget about the fire and what he had saw. Making sure he was still happy even when her emotions told me a different story. I could feel her breaking on the inside and she tried masking it. Such a strong she-wolf. Her eyes hold so much, but her face never gives it away.

We arrived at Finn’s, Jarred’s wolf pouncing around with pride as he won the race. I think his sisters let him win, but they shook their heads as he continue to gloat. After the got their clothes and shifted back and changed, I looked at Mayla. Even with todays events my attraction grew stronger. Her oversized hoodie, her leggings hugging her curved just right and her long brown hair flowing down her back. I groaned as I watched her. Mayla looked at me and her face reddened, she bite her lip and looked away. All of sudden my pants grew tighter. She makes my body go as crazy as my wolf.
