THREAD OF FATE
CHAPTER 29
Mrs. Williams walked into her husband's office, her heels clicking on the marble floor. She had a sense of unease lingering in her stomach since Sonia showed her the incriminating pictures of her and Nicolas, her secretary. The weight of Sonia's blackmail threatened to expose her deepest secrets, leaving her no choice but to dance to Sonia's tune.
She knocked on the door, and her husband's voice beckoned her in. As she entered, she noticed her husband standing up from his chair, a look of curiosity etched on his face. Mrs. Williams sat down, trying to compose herself.
"What's the problem, dear?" her husband asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
Mrs.Williams hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "I think we should drop the issue of the stolen designs. We've overcome the hurdle, and the fashion show was a resounding success. The designs are selling like hotcakes, and I believe we should focus on capitalizing on that success rather than dwelling on the past."
Her husband leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "But what about the integrity of our designs? What if this happens again?"
Mrs. Williams' heart skipped a beat as she tried to maintain her composure. "I think it was just a misunderstanding. Maybe Liza and Sonia had similar ideas or there was a mix-up with their sketchbooks. "We should issue a warning, and I'm sure they'll exercise greater caution in the future."
The chairman raised an eyebrow. "You think we should just let it go?"
Mrs. Williams nodded, trying to convey a sense of confidence. "Yes, I do. We've made our point, and I believe it's time to move on."
Her husband studied her face, his eyes searching for any sign of weakness. After a moment, he nodded. "Alright, dear. If you think that's the best course of action, I trust your judgment."
Mrs. Williams breathed a silent sigh of relief as her husband agreed to drop the issue. She knew she had to keep up the charade, to make sure her husband didn't suspect anything. She left his office, a sense of unease still lingering in her stomach.
As she walked back to her office, she called Sonia, Liza, and Tylor to discuss the new development. They all filed into her office, their faces a mix of curiosity and concern.
Mrs. Williams cleared her throat, trying to sound authoritative. "It's about the issue of the stolen designs" After discussing it with the chairman, we've decided to drop the matter."
Liza's face fell, her eyes flashing with disappointment. "But, ma'am, I still think we should investigate. Those designs were mine, and I'm sure Sonia copied them."
Sonia, on the other hand, looked like the cat who got the cream. She smiled sweetly to herself, trying to appear innocent. her eyes gleaming with a hidden agenda. she pretended to be concerned, saying, "I think we should still investigate and find out who stole the designs between me and Liza."
Tylor, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "If that's what the chairman wants, I suppose we have no choice but to agree."
Mrs. Williams' eyes narrowed, her voice taking on a warning tone. "Let me make one thing clear: this issue is now closed. We will not discuss it again, and anyone who brings it up will face serious consequences."
The room fell silent, the tension palpable. Mrs. Williams' eyes locked onto Liza's, a silent warning passing between them. Sonia, on the other hand, looked like she was about to burst into song.
Mrs. Williams couldn't shake off the feeling that she had just made a deal with the devil. Sonia's smile lingered in her mind, a constant reminder of the blackmail that hung over her head like a sword of Damocles.
Sonia, on the other hand, walked out of the office, a spring in her step. She had played her cards perfectly. As she walked away, she couldn't help but smile. She had won this round.
