Chapter 2: The Mysteries Part 1

Paul's POV I was certain that the "plus one" had appeared on this floor. As I entered silently through the stairs, I caught a glimpse of a burst of light at the corner, and that was the sign that another person had arrived in this forsaken place. The sudden flash of light was like a beacon, indicating the arrival of a new person in this twisted world. The term "plus one" was what we used to refer to these newcomers, and it seemed fitting, given the circumstances. Whoever this person was, they had likely been thrust into this situation just like the rest of us, and now they were part of this chaotic and deadly place. As I thought about it, I wondered what kind of person the "plus one" was. Were they strong and capable, or were they weak and soft, just like most of the people that arrived here? And what would happen to them now that they were here? Would they be able to navigate this treacherous hell, or would they become another casualty? Three years had passed since I found myself trapped in this desolate world, and yet, the question of why remained unanswered. The leaders, whoever they were, seemed to hold the secrets, but they weren't sharing. All we could do was try to survive, day by day, in this unforgiving environment. The rules were strict, and we had to follow them to avoid punishment or worse. The leaders had established a fragile order in this chaos, and we had to conform to it if we wanted to stay alive. It was a harsh reality, but it was the only way to survive in this world. I realized that the rules were likely in place to maintain some semblance of control and stability. But what lay beyond the rules? What was the true purpose of this world, and why were we trapped here? So many questions in my mind, but the answers remained elusive. For now, survival was the only goal that mattered. The leaders in this world were individuals who had managed to survive for longer periods or those who possessed exceptional leadership skills and combat abilities. They had risen to positions of power, likely due to their experience, strength, and strategic thinking. What was truly mind-boggling was the history of this world. According to what we know, it has existed for thousands of years, with people being trapped and forced to survive in this environment. The thought sent shivers down my spine. How many people have been brought here over the centuries? How many had survived, and how many had perished? The leaders' experience and knowledge of this world gave them an edge, allowing them to navigate its dangers. But despite their authority, I couldn't help but wonder what their ultimate goal was. Were they working towards a way out, or were they content with maintaining their power and control over this twisted world? This world was shrouded in mystery, with more questions than answers. The landscape was dominated by towering skyscrapers and buildings of varying heights, ranging from humble two-story structures to colossal high-rises that seemed to touch the sky. The sheer scale of the architecture was awe-inspiring, yet eerie, given the complete absence of natural surroundings. There were no oceans, forests, or bodies of water to be seen. No greenery or signs of life beyond the concrete and steel that made up the buildings. The environment was harsh and unforgiving, with a perpetual dark gray sky that seemed to weigh heavily on the atmosphere. The wind howled and whipped through the streets, threatening to unleash a torrent of rain, but it never did. Rain was a rare commodity in this world, a phenomenon that seemed to have been forgotten. Despite the desolation, the buildings did offer one crucial lifeline: a clean water supply. It was a blessing, given the uncertainty of survival in this world. However, the lack of electricity was a notable absence, making one wonder how the water supply was maintained. And yet, despite the darkness, there was still light. A soft, diffused glow that illuminated the buildings and streets, allowing us to navigate this strange world. It was a peculiar contradiction, one that only added to the enigma of this place. Where did the light come from? How did the water supply work? And what lay beyond the confines of this urban landscape? The questions swirled, but the answers remained elusive. Mystery Number 1: Indestructible Buildings One of the most baffling aspects of this world was the nature of the buildings themselves. They seemed to be completely indestructible, impervious to any form of damage. Whether it was a powerful object being hurled at the walls or an explosive device detonating, nothing seemed to leave a mark on these structures. The buildings stood tall and unblemished, a testament to their seemingly supernatural durability. The use of guns or bombs was equally ineffective, unable to scratch or dent the buildings in any way. Even the glass walls, which one would think would be vulnerable to breakage, were somehow resistant to damage. It was as if the buildings were made of a material that defied the laws of physics, or perhaps they had been designed with some unknown purpose in mind. Another peculiar feature of these buildings was the presence of a helipad on every top floor. It seemed like an unnecessary feature, given the lack of helicopters or any other aircraft in this world. And then there was the absence of basements, a design choice that seemed absurd in a world where underground space could be utilized for various purposes. The combination of these features only added to the sense of mystery and unease that permeated this world. The more I thought about it, the more questions I had. What was the purpose of these buildings, and who designed them? What kind of technology or materials have been used to make them indestructible? And what was the significance of the helipads and the lack of basements? The answers, as always, are difficult to find. Mystery Number 2: Working Elevators The working elevators were another enigma in this world. Despite the absence of any visible power source, the elevators functioned flawlessly, carrying people between floors with ease. The floor buttons lit up, the LED displays showed the current floor and destination, and the entire system seemed to operate with a level of reliability that was both impressive and unsettling. Given the lack of electricity in this world, it was astonishing that the elevators worked at all. It was as if they were powered by some unknown energy source, one that didn't require traditional electrical infrastructure. The fact that the elevators were also indestructible, just like the buildings themselves, added to the mystery. The universality of elevators in this world was also striking. Every building, regardless of its size or height, had a functioning elevator. Even the two-story buildings, which would normally not require an elevator, had one installed. It was as if the presence of elevators was a deliberate design choice, rather than a practical necessity. The fact that people had tried to tamper with the elevators, but found them to be indestructible, suggested that they were designed to withstand any attempts to disrupt their function. But why? What is the purpose of having working elevators in a world without electricity? And what was the source of their power? The more I thought about it, the more questions I had, and the more I realized that this world was full of secrets waiting to be uncovered.
