Chapter 6: To My Brother, Paul

1470 Words
Selene's POV It's been 4 months since Paul vanished, and everything feels different now. His absence has left a void in our clan. It was a blow not just to me but to all of us, and I miss his presence dearly. But despite the sadness I'm facing, our clan has been a rock for me, providing emotional support and guidance. It brought me closer to them. Their kindness has been a source of comfort, and I'm grateful for their presence in my life. We've rallied around each other, supporting one another through the tough times. It's a testament to the bonds we've formed that transcend our differences and unite us in our quest for survival in this world, where everything is uncertain and unpredictable. We're all we have, and we're determined to make the most of it. We'll continue to support each other, to fight for each other, and to hold onto hope. In the face of uncertainty and adversity, we find strength in each one. We shared our fears, our hopes, and our struggles, and in doing so, we formed a deeper connection with one another. Our clan became more than just a group of individuals; it became a family. My family. I know that I can count on my clan to have my back. We'll face whatever challenges come our way together, as a team. And who knows? Maybe one day, we'll uncover the secrets of this world and find a way out. Until then, we'll keep moving forward, together. My personal goal was to take down at least 500 monsters a week, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. Fewer monsters appear now. I often fell short of my goal. It seemed further and further out of reach. The competition within the clan didn't make things any easier. We all wanted kills. Everyone was striving to reach their targets. And there was always a risk of getting accidentally killed in action. As time went on, I began to feel like I was stuck in a never-ending cycle. I wondered if I was cut out for this life, if I had what it took to make it in this world. The doubts lingered in my mind, despite the reassurances from others. They said I was good enough, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that I still had a long way to go. I am still learning, still improving, and my skills aren't yet where they need to be. But despite the self-doubt, I found solace in my training. I had taken to using a bow and arrow for focus, a choice that might seem unusual given the more powerful options available. However, for me, this weapon held sentimental value. It was Paul's, and I felt a deep connection to it. Using his bow and arrow made me feel closer to him, like I was carrying on his legacy in some small way. I imagined that he would have wanted me to have it, to use it as a reminder of him and the bond we shared. It was a tangible connection to my friend, and it gave me the strength to keep going, even when things seemed tough. As I trained with the bow and arrow, I felt Paul's presence with me, guiding me, encouraging me to push forward. It was a strange kind of comfort, but it was one that I clung to, especially in the moments when I felt like giving up. Our clan was truly special, and one of the things that made it stand out was our leader's emphasis on daily training. He encouraged us all to hone our skills, to push ourselves to become better fighters. And it wasn't just about individual improvement; the clan as a whole worked together to help each other grow. Everyone felt comfortable asking for help or guidance. Members were more than willing to share their knowledge and expertise, whether it was a specific fighting technique or a strategy for overcoming challenges. This sense of community and support extended far beyond just fighting skills. With time, I started to notice significant improvements. My skills sharpened, my reflexes quickened, and my confidence grew. I began to feel more assured in my abilities, and my performance in battles reflected this growth. As I progressed, I became one of the most skilled members of the clan. My fellow clanmates started to look up to me, seeking my advice and guidance. I was proud of what I had achieved, and I knew that it was all thanks to the support and training I had received. My journey wasn't easy, but it was worth it. I learned that with hard work, determination, and the right support, I could overcome my insecurities and achieve greatness. And as I stood alongside my fellow clanmates, I knew that I had found my place in this world, and I was ready to face anything, everything. Mystery Number 12: Perfectly Arranged Territories The layout of the territories is quite fascinating. With the clan's skyscraper at the center, each territory stretches out 120 blocks in every direction. That creates a massive area, with each side spanning 240 blocks to reach another clan. You'd have to cover a significant distance – roughly 20 kilometers on foot. That's a substantial journey, especially considering the dangers that lurk in this world. The vast expanse of territory between clans makes encounters with monsters and other threats more likely. It's no wonder that travel between clans is often a carefully planned and executed endeavor. The sheer scale of the territories also raises questions about the world's design and the rules that govern it. Who or what created this layout? What purpose does it serve? And how do the clans interact with one another, given the vast distances between them? These are just a few of the many mysteries that remain to be uncovered in this world. Our leader, MG, made a significant change to our strategy. Instead of grouping up in fives to hunt monsters, he assigned us to patrol specific areas in pairs. This shift in approach was designed to reduce pressure and allow us to focus on securing our territory rather than competing with each other over kill counts. MG's philosophy is to go with the flow and not rush things. He believes that everything happens for a reason, and as long as we're still alive in this harsh world, it means that our time hasn't come yet. This mindset helps us stay calm and focused, rather than getting caught up in the stress of trying to achieve high kill counts. MG's leadership and guidance have been instrumental in our success, and we're grateful for his wisdom and experience. His approach may not be the most conventional, but it's helped us survive and thrive in this challenging world. Upon arrival, I was able to reach 50,000 kills in just six months – a feat that seems almost unbelievable now. All thanks to Paul for his guidance and sacrifices. But looking back, I realize that it wasn't just Paul's efforts that helped me achieve that milestone; the entire clan played a role in my success. Their support was instrumental in helping me reach my goal. Everyone contributed in their own way, whether it was through direct assistance or simply being there to offer encouragement. When I finally reached 50,000 kills, the clan threw a small party to celebrate and welcome me officially. I finally have my own space, and I don't have to share everything with Paul. It was located next to his. It was a touching gesture that made me feel loved and valued. These people, who were once strangers, have become my family – a family that I cherish deeply. I'm deeply grateful to the people I've met in the clan, especially those who have already vanished. Their memories will forever be etched in my heart, and I hope to reunite with them in the real world. Paul, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. During those six months, he shared everything he had with me, and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for him. Yet, he never made me feel like a burden. Instead, he thanked me for arriving, saying that I had lessened the sadness he felt in this world. His words touched my heart, and I felt the same way about him. Having someone who knew me from the real world was a blessing. Paul's presence made this strange and harsh world feel slightly more bearable. I'll always be thankful for his kindness, guidance, and friendship. He may be gone, but his impact on my life will never fade. I hope to meet him again in the real world, and I'll continue to cherish the memories we made together.
