Emma watched Alexander carefully.
“What did Victor say?”
“He didn't call me.”
“Then how do you know he knows?”
Alexander's jaw tightened.
“Because he sent me a message.”
He handed her his phone.
Emma read the message.
YOU CAN'T HIDE HER FOREVER.
Her stomach tightened.
“What does that mean?”
“It means Victor is making his intentions clear.”
Alexander took the phone back.
“You're going to stay at my house until the wedding.”
Emma immediately shook her head.
“No.”
“Emma.”
“I don't even know you, Alexander. I'm not moving into your house.”
“You don't have a choice.”
Her eyes flashed with anger.
“Don't tell me what I can and cannot do.”
Alexander stepped closer.
“I am trying to keep you alive.”
The seriousness in his voice made her stop.
“You really think he would hurt me?”
“I know he would.”
Emma looked away.
For the first time, she realized that this marriage wasn't only about money.
Someone genuinely wanted to destroy her family.
And Alexander seemed determined to stand between her and that danger.
“Fine,” she whispered.
Alexander's expression softened.
“Thank you.”
“But I have conditions.”
His eyebrow lifted.
“Conditions?”
“Yes. I keep working. I visit my parents whenever I want. And you don't control my life.”
Alexander considered her words.
“Agreed.”
Emma blinked.
“That easily?”
“I told you. You're not my prisoner.”
He turned toward the door.
“Pack a bag.”
“Where are you going?”
“To make sure your parents are safe.”
Emma followed him.
“I'm coming with you.”
“No.”
“Alexander—”
“Emma, listen to me.”
He looked directly into her eyes.
“If Victor is watching you, I need to know where he is before we move.”
She reluctantly stepped back.
“Be careful.”
Alexander paused.
Something unexpected appeared in his eyes.
Concern.
“I will.”
He left.
Emma stood by the window and watched his car disappear.
She didn't know when it had happened, but something inside her had changed.
She was beginning to trust him.
And that frightened her more than Victor Hale.
Because Alexander Blackwood had promised he would never love her.
Yet every time he looked at her, Emma felt as though there was something he wasn't telling her.
Something buried beneath his cold exterior.
Something that might change everything.
