Scene 72: Kara's Fear and Sebastian’s Reassurance (INT. BLACKWOOD MANSION – NIGHT – LIVING ROOM) The room is quiet, with the soft hum of the night air drifting through the open windows. Kara sits on the plush sofa, her knees drawn up to her chest, her hands nervously twisting together. The warmth of the fire crackles in the background, but it can’t quite thaw the chill in her chest. She has given herself to Sebastian—this Sebastian—but a lingering fear she can’t shake has settled inside her. Sebastian enters the room, his presence commanding but gentle. He pauses when he sees her, his brow furrowed as he takes in her pensive expression. Something is weighing on her, and it’s not just the strain of everything they’ve been through. He’s learned to read her better now. SEBASTIAN (softly) Kara? She doesn’t answer at first, staring into the fire, lost in her thoughts. Her mind is a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, torn between the love she’s begun to feel for him and the haunting fear that she can’t outrun. Finally, she speaks, her voice barely above a whisper, fragile and vulnerable. KARA (quietly) I’m scared. Sebastian takes a step closer, his eyes softening as he sits down beside her. He doesn’t touch her yet, sensing that she needs space to speak her mind. He’s learned to be patient with her, knowing how guarded she can be. SEBASTIAN (softly) What are you scared of? Kara’s breath catches as she tries to find the words. Her chest tightens, the weight of her fear pressing down on her. She looks at him, but she can’t meet his eyes fully, afraid of what she might see—or what she might not see. KARA (voice trembling) What if... what if you don’t love me? What if you only love... the Kara you knew before? The one who lived in this world before I—before I took her place? Her words hang in the air, raw and vulnerable. The fear that she isn’t enough, that she’s just an impostor in this world, has taken root deep inside her. She wants to believe in what they have, but the ghost of the real Kara lingers in the back of her mind, casting doubt over everything. KARA (whispering) I’m not her. I’m not the person you think I am. I didn’t even belong here. And what if... what if the man you’ve been loving... is just the idea of me, not really me? What if you still want the real Kara? Sebastian’s heart aches at the pain in her voice. He reaches for her gently, cupping her face in his hands, urging her to look at him. His touch is firm, steady, as if grounding her from the storm inside her. SEBASTIAN (earnestly) Kara, listen to me. She doesn’t pull away, but she doesn’t quite meet his gaze either. She’s afraid of what she might hear, but she needs to know. SEBASTIAN (voice low and sincere) I fell in love with you. The Kara who’s sitting right here, right now. Not the version of you from the past. Not the woman you think I wanted. I fell in love with who you are—this Kara, the one who has stood by me, the one who’s fought for herself, for us. The one who’s been through hell and back and is still standing. Kara’s breath catches, her chest tightening as a rush of emotion floods her. She wants to believe him. She needs to. But the fear that she’s not enough for him, that she’s just a shadow of the woman he truly wanted, claws at her heart. KARA (softly, with tears in her eyes) But what if you still see her when you look at me? What if you’re still thinking about her, the real Kara? The one who was always perfect, always what you wanted... Sebastian’s heart shatters at the doubt in her voice. He pulls her close, wrapping his arms around her in a protective embrace. She leans into him, trembling, her face buried in his chest. For a moment, she just lets herself feel the warmth of his body, his heartbeat steady beneath her ear. SEBASTIAN (whispering, soothing) Kara... I swear to you, I don’t see her when I look at you. I see you. You’re the one I want. You’re the one I’ve chosen, even when it was hard, even when I was confused. You’re the woman who’s changed everything for me. Not the woman I lost. Not the woman I let go. He pulls back just enough to look into her eyes, his hands holding her face, his gaze intense but full of love and conviction. SEBASTIAN (voice strong) You’re the only Kara I see now. I don’t care about the past. I care about you, the woman who’s standing here in front of me. I’ve made mistakes, I know that. But I’m trying. And I’ll keep trying, every single day, because you’re worth it. You’re more than worth it. Kara’s heart races as she stares at him, the sincerity in his eyes finally breaking through her walls. She feels the tension in her chest begin to loosen, the weight of her fear starting to lift. KARA (voice cracking) But what if I’m not enough? What if I can’t be who you want me to be? SEBASTIAN (softly, fiercely) You’re already everything I need, Kara. You’ve always been enough. You’ve been more than enough. Kara’s breath catches in her throat, and for the first time, she allows herself to believe it. Her fear isn’t gone, but in this moment, she knows that Sebastian isn’t looking at the woman she was in the past. He’s looking at the woman she is now—the woman she’s fighting to become. KARA (whispering) I don’t want to be scared anymore. I want to believe you. SEBASTIAN (gently) Then believe me. Believe in us. In you. Kara finally meets his gaze, her eyes filled with tears, but these are tears of relief, of finally letting go of the fear that’s been holding her back. She nods, slowly, as if confirming to herself as much as to him. KARA (softly) I believe you. Sebastian smiles, a smile that’s both tender and full of hope. He brushes his thumb across her cheek, wiping away a tear, before leaning in to kiss her gently on the forehead. SEBASTIAN (whispering) Then we’ll face everything together. And for the first time in a long while, Kara feels the warmth of hope blooming in her chest. She doesn’t have all the answers, and the future is still uncertain, but in this moment, with Sebastian by her side, she knows that they can overcome anything. Together.
