My mind still can't process the fact that I have a daughter and even more that Lacey was manipulated to think I'd want nothing to do with them. What kind of evil people send their own daughter away like that!? I know I shouldn't think this, but f*ck I am glad they are d*ed, Lacey deserved so much more than what they gave her.
Lunch went by as a blur, and after we'd finished eating, I said I had something back at the clubhouse that needed my urgent attention, knowing I needed to process all of this. The whole time we ate I couldn't stop watching Lacey and thinking of how hard it must've been raising a child alone, especially when I would have been there to help if I had been given the chance. It's grating on me that I missed so much of Cassidys life.
I didn't get to be at her birth or see her first steps or first day of kindergarten. I was robbed of it all.
I always knew her parents were selfish a**holes, but this really out does anything they've done before.
Even with how f*cked up my father was, I can't imagine him sending me away like that and not visiting for ten whole years.
Parking up at the clubhouse, I don't wait for Blade, instead heading straight for my office. Once inside, I pour myself a strong glass of whiskey before slumping into my big leather chair. Blade doesn't take long to barge in after me, slamming the door behind him. Pouring himself a drink, he takes the seat opposite me, where he looks at me with questioning eyes. " So, are you going to tell me what the hell all that was about?" Blade asks, taking a swig of his drink. " What do you mean?" I reply, not sure how to tell him everything.
" Uh, well, for starters, you had Lacey crying in the study, and then all through lunch, you sat there silently staring at her as if she would disappear if you blinked." Looking down at my glass, I think of how I should just tell him everything, but I'm not sure how he will react about me pretending to not know Lacey.
" Look, I just had the biggest shock of my life, man. I don't know if you remember when my old man was first diagnosed and I kept disappearing at night?" I say, knowing how much Blade used to worry about me going off the rails back then. I was nineteen and drinking all the time, getting into fights and taking off for long periods of time. I never told him where I was going, and he learnt pretty quickly, not to bother asking.
" Yeah, that was bad times, but what's it got to do with Lacey?" He asks as he watches me drain the last of my drink from the glass.
" Those nights, I wasn't just riding around. I was with someone....I was with Lacey. Then, one day, she was gone. Now, here she is ten years later with a kid that could be my f**king twin, Blade." I say, running my hand over my face in frustration.
Blade just sits there silently before eventually letting out a long-winded sigh. " You had no idea?" He asks after a while. I shake my head, my mind feeling tired from today. " How did you even meet her? She doesn't seem like the type that would've hung around us back then." Blade questions, causing me to laugh.
Before I am able to answer him, a loud crash sound comes from out in the main area, Blade and I both jumping to our feet and heading out, presumably to break up a drunken fight.
The sight in front of me takes a second to sink in. One of our prospects ' Chaos' is on the floor, bl**d surrounding him as he lays there, unconscious. Rushing over to him, I tell Blade to go and get Doc, an ex military doctor, who joined us after returning home from duty and found his girlfriend had moved on without him and had taken everything with her.
Kneeling down, I roll Chaos over and try to assess the extent of his injuries. Doc is at my side in a flash, giving instructions on how to help stop the bl**ding while he gets to work.
A few hours later, Chaos was stable, and Doc had given me the rundown on his injuries. The young guy had been st**bed and be**en badly, it's amazing he made it back here.
Pushing the door to his room open, I make my way in with Blade following behind. Chaos is laying in bed, looking like hell as he watches us approach. " How are you feeling?" I ask, knowing damn well that he is in pain. Even with the pain meds Doc has given him, it is sure to be hurting still.
" Could be worse, prez. I appreciate you guys looking after me." Chaos jokes clearly, not wanting to show his discomfort.
" Who did this to you?" Blade asks, always straight to the point.
" I've never seen the guys before, but they said this was a warning to the club to watch their backs." Chaos answers, rage bubbling up inside of me at his words. How dare someone think they can threaten us and get away with it!
" Did they say anything else?" I ask, trying not to put my fist through the wall.
" No, nothing, and they weren't wearing patches or anything that I could see that linked them to anyone we know." Chaos says.
Thanking him, we head out and make our way back to my office.
" What do you think?" I ask Blade as we sit down. " Could be anyone. We aren't exactly short of enemies, although they usually want us to know who it is making the threats." Blade says, stroking his beard while he thinks. " Right. Until we have any leads, tell all the men to be on alert. Tomorrow, I want you to take a crew with you and go and check out where Chaos was attacked and see if there are any cameras around, we might be able to find something useful if there is." I tell him as I stand up, ready to head up to my room to shower and attempt to get some sleep.
" You not coming with us tomorrow?" Blade asks with a smirk. " Yeah, I'm going to see my daughter off on her first day at her new school." I respond, flipping him my middle finger as I leave my office.
