LEYLA
We stepped inside, and the cool air of the lobby hit us. Everything was sleek and modern, just like I imagined a top company should be. We checked in at the front desk, and soon, a friendly receptionist directed us toward a waiting area with plush chairs and a small coffee table. I tried to focus on my breathing, reminding myself that I’d prepared for this moment.
Minutes later, a woman in a sharp suit appeared. “Ms. Langley? Ms. Carter? The interview team is ready for you. Please follow me.”
We followed her down a corridor lined with abstract art and inspiring quotes. My heels clicked softly on the polished floor as I tried to stay composed. We entered a spacious office where a panel of two interviewers sat behind a sleek desk. One man with glasses and a calm voice, and a woman with a bright smile that made her seem approachable.
“Please, take a seat,” the woman said kindly.
As I sat across from them, I couldn’t help but glance around. The room was filled with awards, framed project posters, and a large window showing the city skyline. It was everything I dreamed of being part of a creative and vibrant environment.
The interview started smoothly. They asked about my background, my inspirations, and what I hoped to contribute. I answered confidently, sharing my passion for art and storytelling. I could feel my nerves melting away as I talked about my sketches, my dreams of working in galleries, and my desire to bring my voice to the city’s creative pulse.
But suddenly, my gaze drifted toward the window. Outside, just across the street, I saw a Man.
My breath hitched. Standing there, in the middle of the bustling sidewalk, was a tall man with dark hair and piercing eyes. He looked out of place, like he didn’t belong in this busy city. His expression was unreadable, but there was something about him, I'm sure of it, a quiet intensity that pulled me in.
For a moment, I thought I was imagining it. Maybe it was just a reflection or a trick of the sunlight. But then, I saw him turn slightly, and I caught sight of something that made my stomach tighten.
His hand.
It was trembling, almost twitching, like he was fighting something inside him. I blinked, trying to dismiss the strange feeling. Maybe I was just tired, or maybe the nerves from the interview made me imagine things.
When I looked back at the interviewers, they were still talking, focused on my answers. I nodded politely, but my mind was racing.
Who was he? Why did he look so familiar? And what was happening to him?
A shiver ran down my spine. I told myself to focus. I had come this far, and I wasn’t going to let anything distract me now.
The interview ended with a handshake and promises to be in touch soon. As we left the building, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
Outside, the city’s noise wrapped around us again. I looked back toward the window of the agency, but the man was gone. Maybe I’d imagined it. Maybe I was just overthinking.
But deep inside, I knew I’d seen him before, someone powerful, someone dangerous. And I couldn’t help but wonder if our paths would cross again or if this was just the beginning of something darker.
As we walked down the street, Amme looked at me with a curious smile. “You okay? You looked a bit distracted there.”
I hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… thinking about the city. It’s big, and sometimes, it hides things you don’t expect.”
She grinned. “That’s part of the adventure Leyla. Who knows? Maybe we’ll find out some of those secrets ourselves."
I managed a small smile, but my mind kept drifting back to that moment. The man, the trembling hand, the quiet mystery he carried, it felt like a warning, like a shadow lurking beneath the bright surface of Elysium.
Later that evening, I sat alone in my apartment, staring at the city lights blinking outside the window. My mind replayed the day’s events, the interview, the city’s energy, and that strange man.
Amme was right about one thing. Elysium is indeed full of surprises. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that some secrets here were darker than I had imagined. Secrets that could threaten everything I’d been working so hard.
I reached for my sketchpad, flipping through pages filled with my latest ideas. Art had always been my sanctuary, my way of making sense of the world. But tonight, I felt the weight of something else a shadow I couldn’t see clearly, outside my window he was there, lurking just beyond my sight.
What was that man hiding? And why did I feel like I was somehow connected to him?
I didn’t have answers yet. All I knew was that the city of Elysium was more than just a place of dreams, it was a place where darkness could hide behind the brightest lights.
And I was about to find out just how deep those secrets ran.
