I’m coating my lashes with mascara when my phone rings, causing me to smudge it over my eyelid.
“s**t… s**t… s**t,” I mantra as I pick up the phone from the dressing table. The number is strange but I don’t hesitate to swipe and pick up. It could be Bethany, I’m supposed to meet with her this morning.
“Hello, Leena,” a familiar voice says, sending a cold chill up my spine.
“D… Dad?” I stutter.
“News has reached me that you’re being a b***h to the Henry’s,” he says. He pauses as if waiting for a response to that but I don’t speak so he continues. “The moment you set foot in their home, you became theirs so behave yourself and do as they say. Your wedding with Mark is in a few weeks, I expect you to be at your best behavior and be the good bride that I promised them.”
