The car ride was silent.Elena stared out the window, the city lights blurring past.
“You could have told me,” she said finally.
Alexander didn’t look at her.

“That your own company is trying to arrest you.”
“It wouldn’t have changed anything.Her jaw tightened.
“It would have changed everything.”He turned slightly then, his expression unreadable.
“You think this is about trust?”

“Control.”The word sent a chill through her.
“Everything happening right now,” he continued, “was set in motion long before you walked into my office.”
Her heart pounded.

Her chest tightened.
“So I was just… convenient?”His gaze met hers.
Steady unapologetic Yes.”The honesty stung more than any lie.Elena looked away swallowing hard.

The driver didn’t move Elena laughed bitterly.
“Of course. No one listens to me.”
Alexander leaned slightly closer, his voice quieter now.
“I do.”She turned to him sharply.

“I may have signed your contract…”
She held his gaze but I will never belong to you.”
