Silence settled heavily in the room.
Elena stared at the security officer, her mind struggling to catch up.
“His… arrest?” she repeated.
Alexander didn’t respond immediately but she saw it the slight tightening of his jaw, the shift in his posture. Subtle, but unmistakable.
Something was wrong.
“On what grounds?” he asked at last, his voice low and controlled.
“Internal fraud investigation, sir,” the officer replied carefully. “The board claims there’s evidence linking you to the data breach.”
Elena’s heart skipped.
“That’s ridiculous,” she said, stepping forward. “You’re the one accusing my father—how can they turn this on you?”
Alexander’s gaze darkened, his thoughts clearly moving faster than hers.
“They didn’t turn it,” he said quietly ,they planned it.”A chill ran down her spine.
“What do you mean?”he didn’t answer.
Instead, he looked at her really looked this time, like he was recalculating something.
“For now,” he said, “you stay with me.”
Elena frowned. “That’s not happening.”
His expression didn’t soften.
“It’s not a request.”Her anger flared instantly.
“You think a signature changes anything?” she snapped. “You don’t control me.”
For a brief second, something unreadable crossed his face.
Then he said calmly,
“No. But it makes you my responsibility.”The words hit differently than she expected. Before she could respond
Footsteps echoed outside heavy and urgent
Voices followed.
“Alexander Wolfe! Open the door!”
The officers tensed. They’re here,” one of them whispered.
Elena’s pulse quickened, Alexander moved without hesitation. He reached for her wrist and pulled her toward the far wall.
Her breath caught. “What are you doing?”
A panel slid open, revealing a narrow, dimly lit passage.
“Keeping you out of this,” he said.
“I’m already in this!” she argued. His grip tightened slightly not painful, but firm.
“Not like I am.”
The voices outside grew louder ,Closer,Impatient.
He looked down at her, his eyes steady, unyielding.
“Listen to me carefully,” he said.
For the first time, there was no cold distance in his tone only command.
“From this moment on, you don’t speak unless I tell you to.”Elena held his gaze, her heart pounding. She should fight him or She should pull away.
But something in his expression stopped her. This wasn’t control it was survival. The door to his office burst open just before the hidden panel closed
Elena heard a voice shout Alexander Wolfe, you are under arrest!” Darkness swallowed them.
