Elena’s heart pounded as she read the message again. Ten minutes.She looked at her father,his face was pale, fear written all over it. “You can’t go back there,” he whispered. Elena grabbed her coat. “I don’t have a choice.” The drive to Wolfe Tower felt endless. Every second of the countdown echoed in her mind. When she finally reached the top floor, the elevator doors slid open to reveal Alexander waiting as if he knew the exact moment she would arrive. His dark eyes locked onto hers. “You’re late,” he said calmly. “It’s been nine minutes,” she shot back.The corner of his mouth lifted slightly. “So you were counting.” Elena stepped closer, anger burning through her fear.Call off the police.” “That depends.”On what?” “Your answer.”Her chest rose and fell “You’re forcing me into this.” “I’m offering you a solution.” “You’re threatening my family.” Alexander walked toward her slowly, his presence filling the room. “And yet,” he said quietly, “you still came back.” Elena clenched her fists. “You said my name was on your list.” Something flickered briefly in his eyes. “Your father told you that?” “Is it true?” Silence stretched between them.Alexander leaned against the desk, studying her like she was a puzzle he had already solved. Then he said the words that made her blood run cold. “Yes.” Her breath caught Why?” she demanded. His voice dropped, calm and dangerous. “Because six months ago… you interfered with something that belonged to me.” Elena’s mind raced. “I don’t even know you!” Alexander’s gaze darkened. “Oh, Elena,” he said softly. You’re about to know me very well.” Then he pushed the contract toward her. “Sign it.” Her hand hovered over the pen and at that exact moment Her father called crying
