ANASTASIA'S POV
I stared at the number, suddenly forgetting how to breathe. The puzzles started to fit in but I refused to believe.
He wasn't cheating on me. He was probably just curious. Yes.
That's it.
He was curious.
Alpha Dante seemed to have caught onto my shock. "What? You know him?" He asked and they all stared at me, waiting for an answer.
"Well... I'm not sure. I...don-" I muttered, struggling to find words. My face went red as I realized I was barely making sense.
"Yes," I said and their faces fell. I could smell the pity radiating from the old beta and my colleagues but my eyes never left him.
“Well would you mind taking us to him?" The beta asked and I shook my head, turning away. The light footsteps behind me was enough to tell me they were following.
"Do you have a ride?" Dante asked and I shook my head, recalling how I sold my car to pay part of Darius’ dept.
"Come let's take my car," he said and I stared at him, slowly nodding.
We took his car and the drive to my house was silent with the beta behind us. We got to my street and I tried to ignore how fast my heart was beating.
“Stop here," I muttered and he pulled over. We got out and I stared at my house like I was just seeing it for the first time.
“Where is this?" Dante's beta asked and I smiled.
“It's my house.” My words seemed to tell them volumes about the case and the beta’s face dropped, his features painted with pity.
"Anastasia," Dante called and I stared at him with an empty smile.
"Is Darius your husband?" Dante asked with a low voice.
"Well the secret is out now," I said, walking towards the house.
"Do you need help?" His voice rang in my ear and I shook my head.
“Don't worry. I'd like to confirm myself,” I muttered, pushing the door open.
"Well, be careful. Don't yet know the full extent of this forbidden magic. Whatever you find or see inside… don’t act. Come back out immediately and confirm it with me. We'll handle it,” he advised but I only nodded, barely listening to a word he said.
I stepped in and I was met with Darius’ shoes.
On impulse, I carried them, moving them to the side. I walked in and a pair of red heels came to sight.
These were expensive and my breath seized. I had barely moved when I saw a dress. A tear slipped out and I moved again, following the trail of their clothes.
As I walked closer to his bedroom door, obscene sounds filled my ears.
They were barely audible but to me, they felt so loud I could barely hear myself think.
I walked into the room and the sounds got louder, coming from the bathroom.
Thankfully they had left it partially open. I peeped through the crack and a gasp left my lips. I clamped my hand over my mouth as I took them in.
Darius had a lady pinned to the wall, none other than Hazel the omega. He pounded into her, a weird ring around his finger.
No doubt that was responsible for blocking the mate bond. I squinted my eyes, trying to get a better look at it but I couldn't stay much longer before they caught me watching them.
I took one last look at my husband, thrusting into his "platonic partner" before I could take it no longer.
Nausea overwhelmed me and I ran out of the house.
I ran out, crashing into Dante's arms as I tried to swallow.
Getting myself together, I moved away from him, taking in deep breaths. My eyes hurt with tears but I refused to let any fall for that asshole.
“What did you see?" The beta asked and Dante threw him a look that said "seriously?"
“You're right. Somehow he got an artifact but it was a ring and now he’s balls deep in a girl,” I explained, looking anywhere but at them.
Dante and the elder looked at each other. “Come with us," Dante ordered and I sniffled, walking behind.
We ended up in the pack house and I was left alone with the beta whose name turned out to be Willam.
He changed completely and now I was stuck in an interrogation.
"How long has your husband been seeing her?" He inquired and I sat on the chair like a log of dead wood. Every question seemed to only make me feel stupid.
Platonic partner?
How the f**k did I even believe that?
"And you never felt any pain?" He asked and I let out a tired sigh.
Luckily, Dante stepped in. "You can go, Will?" He said and the beta nodded, stepping out. I sat up, taking in a deep breath.
“Are you okay Myers?" He questioned and I stared at him with wide eyes.
“How did you know that?" I asked and a chuckle left his lips.
“Of course, I know you. Even better than yourself. I know that you were a beta and a good warrior,” he muttered, taking a seat.
“You should fight for our pack instead of being trapped in a house with that man.” I stared at him dumbfounded.
I lowered my head, not knowing what to say. I always felt like my life was ruined since I found my mate. But I couldn't voice it out.
I mean who would listen? Everyone always gushed about it being the best thing that happened to them.
"We have reasons to suspect that your husband is not just betraying you. He's likely involved in a cross pack smuggling of dark magic contraband," Dante explained, his voice laced with caution.
My jaw fell open and I quickly clamped it shut. I had been working my ass off and there was a possibility that Darius was involved in illegal acts.
"Since I took over pack affairs I have been investigating the whereabouts of forbidden magic," Dante stated and I nodded in understanding.
"The kind of dark magic that isolates mate bonds, but this means that there is a power that can cover up the nature of werewolves. It involves a large collective case decades
ago, with hundreds of victims," he continued, pulling out a file from under the table.
He opened it, sliding it towards me. I studied him for a while before picking the folder up. My eyes fell on a name all too familiar and I froze.
"My dad was part of the victims?" I asked and he gave me a small nod.
"We need evidence and a complete chain of transactions. Your husband is a
breakthrough. And you are the only one who can gain his trust and get evidence," Dante stated, running a hand through his hair.
“Will you help us?"
I blinked repeatedly, he just asked me for help?
