Mathieu Renaud's fingers closed around the file Alexander slid across the desk. The weight of it was heavier than it looked… or maybe that was just the weight of what he was about to do.
He opened it slowly, his eyes scanning the pages with the practiced ease of a man who had spent over half his life reading between lines. The file contained financial records, transaction histories and a trail of missing money that led nowhere, and disappeared into accounts that didn't seem to exist.
Except Mathieu knew exactly where it led.
He had helped build this trail months back when Elise was beginning to get jealous of Alexander's wealth and wanted some for herself.
