CHAPTER FIVE
A chill, far colder than the autumn night could ever create, raced down Ashley’s spine when she heard Daniel’s words. Did she know the murdered woman? She shifted her position on the glider seat and stared at the agent.
“Exactly what kind of relationship do I have with the victim?” she asked him.
“You went to high school together. Graduated the same year.”
Although her graduating class from Laurel County High had been relatively small compared to other schools in Tennessee, there were still plenty of students that she knew by name only. It was possible she’d never even spoken to the woman.
“Who is she?”
“Her name was Sarah Lester,” he said as though searching her eyes for a recollection.
Ashley turned her head as a pang of sadness ripped through her heart. She had known
