Staring at the mirror, Dazai, knotted his tie. The years that passed had done him good. He was now a full-grown man, standing tall with lean muscles. Strong and Handsome. His heart beat fast with anticipation as the time for his next event grew closer.
Kato had hired a retired detective who was now working as private investigator. He was able to get his hands on his sister’s cold case file which was leaked by a colleague and after years of searching extensively for his sister’s killer, he found one of them, the rest had no names, evidence was lost and fabricated. Dazai, didn't know how Kato got to know who they were but he trusted him and he was up for the kill.
When he was done dressing, he put his cat’s food in its bowl and drove off. He parked in front of a small parish and waited for the service to end. After an hour, the parish doors were opened and people trailed outside. Dazai, silently waited for the message and when his phone dinged, he checked it.
It's time, the message read.
Dazai, checked his watch then stepped out from his car and entered the parish. He sat in the confession booth and waited for the priest to come in. After some few minutes, he heard the priest open the side of his door and made some little shuffling sounds then it was quiet.
"It's been over two minutes and you haven't said anything" the priest said.
Dazai, looked at the small window, he could make out the features of the priest "I don't know where to start from."
The priest chuckled "Please, feel free the Lord is here. There's no condemnation."
Dazai, sighed out loud "I'm so full of rage, father. I want to kill someone. I have to kill someone."
He heard the priest gasp "And why is that?"
"In the year 1998, on the sixteenth of December, you murdered someone," it was eerie silent "So forgive me, father, for you have to die." he then put his gun on the barricade of the confession booth and shot at it.
He heard the priest scream as he hurriedly opened his door and ran out but he didn't get far. Dazai, caught him by his robe and threw him to the ground.
"f**k, somebody f*****g help me!"
Dazai, c****d his bead to the side "I see, you haven’t fully repented. Priests aren't supposed to curse. Weren’t you taught that?"
"s**t, what do you want from me?" fear roared through the priest, sweat beading on his lips.
"I have just two questions," Dazai pointed his gun at him "and you have thirty seconds." he glanced at his wrist watch then looked at the priest.
“Where are your friends?"
“I don’t know. We were just stupid teenagers then, okay?”
Good, he didn’t deny knowing them “What? You guys kill someone and cut off contact? Here I thought you were a union for forever.”
“Yes, we went to different Colleges. We cut off communication after High school.” the Priest said in a desperate attempt to show he knew nothing of the others again.
Dazai understood that even if the priest knew, he wasn’t going to say word. One of them must have come from a high-profile home for the case to be rid of any evidence “Do you remember her name?"
The Priest looked dumbfounded "It wasn't just me you know, I-"
"Twenty seconds." Dazai glanced at his watch again.
"Okay, okay. I uh..." sweat dripped from his forehead, his eyes darting around, as if looking for an escape "f**k, I can't remember. It was Sage's girl, how the f**k am I supposed to know?!"
Sage, huh? Dazai, ground his teeth, his mouth thinned with displeasure. “Where is this, Sage?”
“I swear to God I don’t know. Told you we cut connections, I swear.”
“Tell me more
“It was Sage, okay? He got mad that she didn’t agree to date him he said she laughed at him and said he was the same age as her brother. Sage was crazy as hell. What got him mad the most was that he believed she was sleeping with her brother.”
Dazai clenched his jaw “And you killed her.”
“They threatened me. He threatened me that he’d kill my mother. He was with some young boys that had formed a sort of a gang.” mucus was sliding out of his nose “Please don’t kill me please.”
Dazai would have believed him but he had seen him in the court, how unremorseful he looked, the hidden twisted smile he wore when he heard his sentence. “Liar” he pointed his gun at the priest and aimed at his leg.
"Arghh" he screeched in pain "It f*****g hurts!" His trembling hands clawed at his leg "Oh f**k"
Dazai glanced at his watch again " Your time is up"
"Wait, wait, wait" the priest bowed down "I'm sorry, huh?" he brought his hands together "Let bygones be bygones, okay?" his breaths turned ragged.
"Yeah, you said so in the tape you and your folks sent to me, but I'm afraid I can't"
"For f**k's sake I don't f*****g deserve this" The priest started to cry.
"What's her f*****g name?!" Every word ground out of Dazai's mouth, becoming hoarser than before.
The priest started to cry "I'm so sorry but I don't-
Bang!
The priest fell sideways with a silent thud. A trail of blood was leaking from the wound on his forehead with his eyes wide open. It was silent. Dazai's gun was still pointing at the dead priest. He hoped he would feel a bit at ease but there was nothing, he wasn't satisfied. The front door opened and a priest walked up to him.
"It's time to leave, the cleaners are on their way"
Dazai lowered his hand and tucked his gun behind his belt. "Thank you"
"Please tell the boss I will see him this night" Dazai nodded his head and they exchanged words with their eyes then he left the parish.
