1728 Words
Adele went on about her day, she tapped a few steps before meeting another obstruction, she then leaned forward towards the space trying to locate the handle, when she did, she opened the door, and got ready for the day. Getting ready became better over the years for Adele, but it was never easy. The first year was hard, Trying to understand her new predicament as a young child of seven years was hard, especially knowing that the person you loved the most died in the accident, And worse while saving your life. She always found zipping the clothes by herself hard, but the hardest was not being able to see how she looked, she couldn’t even tell her height or what her skin colour was, or her hair colour, all the basic things, which most girls knew and loved about themselves. She could only remember 14 years ago, how she looked wearing khakis that her mother would force on her or the oversized ball gowns that made it hard for her to walk around, but that was in the past, she could barely remember anything anymore, just a fragment of it, and even that was fading away. The last time she could remember she still had blonde curls, now she had a thick long red curly hair or so they said, she had never seen it and probably never will. Adele was ready, fast. She had successfully put on her dress without anyone’s help, though it took way longer than it would’ve, she didn’t mind adapting to an independent self, but knowing her family, they would never fully allow her to be on her own. After years of depending on people, it was even hard for her to picture herself on her own. However, pushing those thoughts aside, she smiled when she successfully reached for the zip and completed her fit. The last bit of her outfit were her glasses, once she put them on, she ran her hands over her gown and grabbed her stick. She began walking again and she tapped lightly, before finding the exit to her room, a door, that shielded her away from the world, she slightly opened it before heading out of the room. “Good morning Adele”. A female spoke up. Adele recognized the voice, and her male stud Victoria secret perfume that she always drowned herself in, it was her female bodyguard, and best friend Jenny. “Good morning Jenny”. She replied with a soft smile, Jenny was the only person who saw her smile and she intended to keep it that way. She stepped further out of the room, letting her bedroom door close behind her. She then freed one of her hands and raised it up to meet Jenny’s hands, she held onto it as they began walking, they never spoke much, and Adele appreciated it, she was left to her thoughts. As they approached the grand stairs of the building, Adele held on tighter to Jenny’s hands, as they slowed down the pace. They walked slowly till they met the foot of the stairs. Adele then removed her hand from Jenny’s. She continued on to the west wing were the dining room was located. She continued walking till she met another person, who greeted her. “Good Morning Miss Adele, this way”. Adele followed his hands which she grabbed, as he directed her to a seat, She knew him , Vincent, he always breathed under his nose and had a deep voice that rang through her ears violently whenever he spoke, he was probably tall for that voice, she had always thought, though she had never measured how tall he was, she could tell from his hands. They kept walking for a while, in silence, no one ever spoke to her, Adele hated it, she hated meaningless discussions that could lead to crying one day, she didn’t want to be attached to anyone, again. He came to a halt, making her remove her hands from his, she then waited, as she heard him walk away, to the dining table, where he pulled out a chair, he came back and gently placed his hands on her back, she shrugged her back away irritated by the gesture. “I can locate my sit!”. She said harshly as she tapped her stick forward measuring the area, she then used her hands to examine the table till the she found her chair, she propelled her self forward and sat on the seat. She laid her stick on the side of the table, before sitting upright as she awaited the meal. It didn’t take a while before the meal came, she heard the women approach her as they dropped things on the table one by one, a particular lady dropped a plate in front of her, she inhaled the food immediately, it was pancakes and bacon, with some fruits, it scented appetizing, she hoped the taste was the same. However, she didn’t touch the food immediately, instead she turned to her side, asking a question. “Where is my father?”. “He couldn’t come Miss, he said-“. “That’s enough information, pass me the utensils”. “Yes, Miss”. Was all she heard before the girl passed her the fork and knife and she began digging in. At first bite the food had not disappointed, as it was just as mouth watering as it had scented. She was impressed. She quickly finished her plate, before wiping her lips and dropping her utensils on each side. “Tell James to warm up the car”. She instructed as she turned to the side again. She heard the girl leave, making her turn to her left. “Vincent, Your hand”. She felt a hand grab her hand, she, using her free hand reached for her stick as she started walking again. They walked for a total of ten minutes before reaching the garage, she heard the car warm up in a distance, so she left Vincent’s hand and followed the sound of the car, tapping her stick on the ground to lead the way. She finally hit the car and then she heard James greet her. “Good morning miss, this way”. He led Her to the car door, helping her put her stick inside, while she followed next, sitting down gently inside the car, she then heard him close the door, before leaving and entering the driver’s seat. Adele reached for the seat belt and secured it in, her self. The car roared one more time before she felt it moving and driving off. It was a slow drive to her destination, so Adele settled down at the back waiting for the car to stop at anytime, signifying the end of the journey. She closed her eyes as she listened to the classic playing from the radio, And I..... Will always love you..., And I will always love you.. Celine Dion had sung this; she knew that it was a song she wrote for her husband who had now sadly died. She knew that much, though the song always made her sad, She knew how a person would love someone to that extent, she had experienced it first hand, The agape love she had for her mother, was one of the reasons why she felt so much pain from loosing her. Adele believed in love, she loved the idea, but she just wasn’t sure, she wanted to love anyone again, the people that came close to her always ended dead. She was still so immersed in the song as it was getting to the hook, that she was so shocked when the car came to a sudden halt. ‘’Oh No!”. She heard James say, Alerting her senses. Something was wrong. “What happened James?”. She immediately asked concerned as she grabbed her stick for safety. She did not hear any reply from James which greatly upset her, just the sound of the door In front of her opening abruptly before slamming shut immediately with a huge bang, causing a ringing in her eyes as she jumped on her seat. What was wrong? What happened? Adele was scared and worried, she wondered what had happened, she tried listening for sound but she couldn’t hear anything from the car , so she shifted closer to the door on her side, and stretched her hands to open it, but the door was yanked opened before she could complete her action, causing fresh air to hit her face. Someone had opened the door, the person was close to her and was someone she wasn’t familiar with. That did not sit well with her, she tensed. This unknown person reeked of alcohol and cigarettes, two of the stenches she hated the most. She tried to hide her disgust, by maintaining a neutral face, since she wasn’t sure who this person was and what he or she was capable of doing, so she waited calmly for the person to speak up, but she heard nothing, She then turned her face to her side trying to communicate her attentiveness to whatever the person wanted to say, but a rough hand grabbed her hand yanking her out of the car with no warning. Adele wasn’t able to grab her stick with how fast she was pulled away, so she left helplessly. The next thing she knew was her body being slammed to the car door, closing the door. Fear was all she felt at the moment, as she was for the first time without her stick, an object that had been her sense of direction and strength for years. Adele, for the first time in years, wished she had her sight. She tried freeing herself from the deathly grip, but this person who she figured was a man, was not letting her leave any time soon, When she tried a few times and her hands were not being freed, she spoke up demanding a reason for the assault. “Why are you assaulting me?”. “Assault?’’ A husky deep voice spoke up, “I just want to know why a beautiful woman like you could be this arrogant”. Adele was Flustered.
