The New Job

" Are you alright?"
Cristel is worried. The look on her face is so concerned. Do i look scared?
"I'm fine, i-i'm j-just a little shaken because of our trip."
I don't know what to do or tell. Should i tell her i don't want to continue? But i badly needed the job. I felt my feet slowly following Cristel to the building. I have no choice.
"Dad, what's happening?! They are taking everything away from us!!!"
"I'm sorry, Armina, this is all my fault. I will never forgive myself. "
Weeks later, dad committed suicide. My mom was so devastated that she suffered depression. At that time, she's always in the corner, crying.
Later on, we can not afford any luxury anymore. Mom slowly terminated the employees until Nina was the only one left. Jacob was just a baby, and our faithful nanny, Nina, stayed with him until he was five. Unfortunately, my mom got involved in an accident that caused her half body paralyzed. I stopped attending college and started working multiple jobs. I shouldered all the responsibilities.
And this is how I ended up. The company who made us suffer is right in front of me. I can't believe myself.
We entered the building. The hallway is wide and luxurious. The walls are painted white, the floor is so shiny, and you will see the reflection of the ceiling. I scanned the whole area while we're walking.
I walked behind Cristel until we reached the end of the hallway. She opened a door, and the room inside was very different from the outside. It is very simple, and the gray paint makes the atmosphere gloomy. One of the staff welcomed us.
" And who's the girl behind you, Ms. Grandma. "
The guy wears an overall grey jumper with a blue outline, his name tag attached on his clothes is blurred, and i can't read his name anymore. Cristel didn't answer him. She continued writing in the log book. He noticed i'm staring at his tag.
" I'm Gary, you can just ask me. Is she with you, grandma?"
" I found my replacement, now i can retire finally. Do you have a problem with that?" she answered sarcastically.
" She's Armina, she needed the job, i offered it, she accepted. Tell the head they don't need to look anymore for another candidate. "
The man looked like he's confused.
" You sure you're applying as a janitor? You look like a rich brat to me, "he chuckled.
Cristel made a big smile. He scanned me from head to toe. He really looked confused.
"Yes, Sir, i'm applying here as a janitress, i'm looking forward to working with you Sir", i replied.
" I think you're in the wrong department. Look at that beauty, even Mr. Lex would look at you. Just apply as his secretary, that job suits you very much. "
Mr Lex? I don't know who he's talking about. I don't remember anyone from this company with that name.
" Why the f**k do you care? Let the lady decide. Come on, i will introduce you to our head."
Cristel introduced me to the other staffs and to the management. The whole day was fun and every personnel welcomed me as if they already knew me. I was so happy that i forgot all the thoughts i've been thinking when i entered the building. Luckily, the head accepted me immediately and can start the work next day. A mini goodbye party was held for Cristel. Everybody staged a little presentation and each staff delivered funny and touching messages for her. It was already late afternoon when it all ended. I said many thank yous to Cristel before we parted ways. I went home immediately.
I arrived at home around 6:30 pm. Mom cooked dinner and we ate altogether. I did not mention to Mom what i did today. I felt so tired that i immediately decided to take a bath and went to bed.
The thoughts from this morning started to flood my mind. I remembered dad and mom, and everything that happened to us because of that company. My eyes felt hot and tears started dripping on my face.
" I f*****g hate them all".
I slept with tears on my pillows.
