CHAPTER FOUR

924 Words
Will's POV, Karen , the was the name of the Purger that hated me, and she hated me even more any time I say her name, which was one of the reasons I loved calling her. I leapt off of the tree I was on, landing behind karen's Purger friend, then knocked him in the back of the head, rendering him unconscious. I'd found several ways to knock humans out, they had so many pressure points. "Your friend should be able to counter my attacks by now," I said, "but then again, I guess no one is better than you at countering my attacks." "You're still alive," she groaned. "When you say it like that I might think you're disappointed." "You have no idea." "It's been a while though, did you miss me?" "I've been missing having opportunities to kill you," Karen retorted. "Opportunities to try to kill me you mean," I corrected her. "You've been failing these past 6 years, what makes you think you'll get me today?" "One can only try till they get what they want." "And what you want is your sword through my heart?" "Precisely." I softly laughed. I'd given up on trying to make karen fear me years ago, but I'd gotten another emotion other than fear from her. Hate. It was quite entertaining, the way Karen hated me, to the point where I looked forward to all of our interactions. She was the only person I ever interacted with. "Doesn't one get tired of trying after 6 years?" | mused, "And aren't you satisfied already, you got a fight today after all." "It wasn't enough competition." "Of course it wasn't, you managed to kill him." "And just like how I killed him, I'm going to—" "Try to kill me?" I asked, interrupting her. "You can try, but be careful, I haven't killed anyone today."" "So what, you want a congratulation? A gold star?" I tried to bite back my laugh and it ended up sounding like a snort, "just try and die this time around." "No promises." She told me. I did enjoy fighting karen, she was good, too good that I got irritated whenever I failed to perceive her attacks. What she didn't know, was that no matter how good she was, if I wanted her dead, she'd be dead. "Ready to fail karen?" I asked, unsheathing my sword. "Stop calling me that!" She demanded, making me smirk though she couldn't see that because of the mask. "I'm gonna kill you today." "Of course... karen," I added with amusement. And with that, she leapt at me, thrusting her sword, aiming right for my stomach. That was a rash move, reckless if I might say. Attacks like that used to catch me off guard because nobody in their right mind would do that, she'd almost got me one time because of that, but now I was used to the way she fought. I dodged her attack, but she abruptly stopped just as I did, digging her heels into the ground and turning to take another jab at me, swinging her sword across. That was an unexpected move but I managed to deflect her sword, hitting it off course so the tip hit the ground, too close to my foot. "That was close," I said. "But not close enough." I grabbed her hand, then kicked the sword out of her grip. She quickly grabbed a dagger from her thigh sheath and aimed it at my hand but I quickly let go of her hand before she could s***h me. The other Purger, who I hit had woken up, coming from behind. I quickly grabbed karen and turned with her so that she was in the way of his attack. The Purger, Alex just managed to stop before his sword met her skin. "A little faster and you'd have injured your partner," I wryly said to him. I hit Alex's sword down then pushed karen forward, and he caught her. Without hesitation, she unsheathed his dagger, spun around, and threw it toward me. It was aimed right at my heart, but caught it before it made contact with my chest, blood dripping from my hand as it was wrapped around the sharp edge of the blade. If I was a little slower than she'd have killed me, and if I really wanted to, I'd have killed her too. She always manages to make me bleed, I wonder if she ever questions why I've never made her bleed before. I sped to her, grabbing her by her shirt as I lifted her and held her against a tree. I heard the other Purger approaching. "Don't," I warned him. I fixed my grip on the dagger, holding it against her neck, "You know I can just kill you now." "You wish," she said as she lifted her legs, wrapping them around my waist as she pulled me closer intending to headbutt me but I kept my hand outstretched against the tree so I didn't end up close enough to her to do so. "Predictable," sighed. She growled, but it was more amusing than menacing, at least to me. That trick worked once, or twice, but not the way it used to. "And the only reason you're not dead is because I find pleasure in seeing you irritated and upset every time you fail to kill me."And with that, I released her, putting the dagger into her hand. "Better luck next time... karen" I added. with a wink then left.
