The VIP Proposal

540 Words
The heavy oak doors of the private VIP lounge shut with a soft click, instantly cutting off the muted roar of the grand ballroom below. Inside, the atmosphere was completely different. The air was thick with the scent of expensive leather, rich mahogany wood, and a faint trace of sophisticated men's cologne that belonged exclusively to Ethan Blackwood. Eva stood near the entrance, trembling like a leaf in autumn. She kept her hands tightly laced in front of her ruined apron, her eyes glued firmly to the plush Persian rug beneath her feet. Her heart thundered so loudly against her ribs that she was convinced the powerful man standing across the room could hear it. She had just ruined the clothes of the city's most feared billionaire, and she was certain that her life, along with her mother's treatment, was completely over. Ethan had already shed his ruined suit jacket. He stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window, slowly unbuttoning his silver cuffs. The wet, translucent fabric of his white shirt clung to his broad chest, revealing the faint shadow of lean, hard muscle underneath. He didn't look back at her immediately, but his silence was more terrifying than any loud threat. "Do you have any idea how much that suit cost, sweetheart?" Ethan’s deep, baritone voice broke the silence, sending a cold shiver down Eva’s spine. He turned around slowly, his piercing eyes locking onto her pale, terrified face. "I-I am so sorry, sir," Eva choked out, her voice barely a whisper as tears threatened to spill from her eyes. "It was an accident. Another waiter bumped into me. I will pay for the dry cleaning, I promise. Please just don't fire me." Ethan let out a low, humorless chuckle that didn't reach his cold eyes. He took a slow step toward her, his towering figure casting a long shadow over her small frame. "Pay for it? With your monthly waiter's salary, it would take you exactly five years to afford just the fabric of that jacket." Eva gasped, her last bit of hope shattering. She closed her eyes, preparing for him to call the security or the police. "But," Ethan continued, stopping just inches away from her, the intense scent of his cologne clouding her senses, "I am a businessman, and I believe in profitable solutions. I looked into your profile just now. Your mother is in the municipal hospital, requiring a highly expensive surgery next week. Am I right?" Eva’s eyes snapped open in pure shock. "How... how do you know that?" "I know everything about the people who cross my path," Ethan said smoothly, pulling a sleek leather folder from the desk behind him. He opened it, revealing a legal document. "You need money to save your mother. And I need something that only a girl with no social status can provide." He slipped a fountain pen into her trembling hand and pointed at the paper. "Marry me for one year. I will pay off every single penny of your mother's medical bills, and you will walk away with a million dollars when the contract ends. This is my VIP proposal, Eva. Sign it, and save your mother, or walk out of this room into absolute ruin."
