Prologue: Empty World

752 Words
Ash snowed down onto the dry and barren ground. Old and rusted vehicles lay scattered across the paved roads, skeletons and still bodies lay in heaps out in the open, for there was no one to bury them.  A cloaked figure walked carefully past the ruins, his bare feet never really touching the rocky path.  Humans are a destructive race, don't you think? A deep rattling voice asked from seemingly nowhere.  The man paused in his tracks, glancing to his left side, crystal clear yet fiery green eyes filled with obvious mirth.  "Who, my dear friend's fault is that? If not for your stumbling over that poor muggle and making him shiver as if he was in the middle of a snowstorm, I'm sure that none of this would have happened. "The emerald-eyed man told the suddenly shimmering air. A billowing cloak pried the air apart with skeleton fingers of ivory. The cloaked man rolled his eyes and took a step back to make way for the owner of the skeleton fingers. A reaper with a scythe appeared from the very fabric of the air, dusting itself off. If I had not, you would still be strapped down to that chair and being a lab rat for those humans. Came the surprisingly haughty reply from the reaper. What have you decided to do, my Master?   "I...I would not mind starting over in my own world. But you cannot interfere, you hear me Death?" The man asked with narrowed eyes squinting at the imperial figure. Death laughed, loud and booming, holding his scythe closer the being nudged its master, amusement like a cloud around it. I shall not intervene, this world that myself and Life had chosen is all yours. Of course, Life and I shall still bring life and death to it, but otherwise, we will not do anything to it.  Death reassured its master, who glared lightly at the being.  "I'm not sure if I should trust your words or not. You've already brought this world to its knees, thrice since I've become your Master. " The cloaked male said pointedly looking at the empty streets and cloudy skies. Death made a sound of mocking offense.  I shall have you know, dear Master of mine, that I have ruined this plane countless times before. This is unfortunately my world after all. Life does whatever she wishes with her world as do all the other deities. Of course, the same courtesy shall befall you once you have entered your world and have discovered your special ability. Death explained. The man sighed but nodded in understanding, glancing around him in curiosity. "But was it really necessary for you to kill everything and everyone again?"The man asked in amusement. Death chortled clasping the man's shoulder in a bony hand.  It was not, but it is time for a new race and species to come to this world since humans and animals were starting to overpopulate the place. This of course would not happen to your world since you so kindly asked me to not interfere in your world. Life had made sure that you have an entire universe with endless possibilities are available for you. The reaper said in a fond tone. Now, shall I send you to your world? Or shall we explore a while longer, Harry?  Harry sighed as he glanced once more at the streets that he had begun to call home before he had been kidnapped and experimented on so that humanity could find a way to immortality. He touched the pouch that was expanded on the inside thoughtfully. He had every magical book from when he had started in his long life. The magical community having died long ago. And when the human populace was destroyed until only a small amount remained for the second time he had collected and learned from every book that he could. The pouch also held everything important to him and a large amount of money he had collected from doing small jobs all across the globe.  He didn't really want to leave his homeworld. But seeing destruction every few thousand years because of his servant was something he did not want to experience anymore, either.  Harry nodded hesitantly before speaking his answer out loud. "Send me to my world, Death, please." The being gave a short bow exuding waves of delight. Do enjoy your world, Hadrian James Potter, and remember I will always come when you call or need me.  Goodbye, dear Master.
