Sophia pov
Immediately they left, I felt a surge of tears fluttering in my body. My eyes were brimmed with tears, and my lips quivered in a sob.
I swallowed the lump that summed up in my throat and advanced to the bathroom to take a shower. I stood under the shower, allowing the sprinklers to cool my turbulent mind as the memory of the breabreakup divorce replayed in my head.
Everything happened so fast. My life ended right before my eyes without any warning. I couldn't believe Brooke would mean his words. I thought he was going to come back and tell me it was a prank, not until I watched his legs walk away from me with my half-sister, Martha.
I switched off the water sprinkler and moved back to the room to pack all my belongings. However, as I was packing all my costly jewelry in my purse, my hand touched a plastic material. I paused and hesitated for some minutes before picking it up on the bed. It was an identity card; obviously for the stranger that took an advantage of me. I slid it into my purse too, and left the room dishearteningly.
I couldn't return to my house nor could I return to my company as the news had gone viral on social media about how I slept with a stranger the night after my wedding day. My reputation had been successfully smeared by Martha and her mother.
I chose to leave the City to a very far city and start up my life. I couldn't bear the shame that would befall me if I stayed here. I just needed to walk away from this city else I would die of depression.
Staring at the city I once called home in farewell was the saddest feeling ever, but I have to leave for a better place to build a better ME.

Five years later.
" Mrs. Sophia, we've seen how impactful you are to our branch, and we must confess that you're the best secretary we've ever employed in our company,".
" Yes, Mrs. Sophia. You're the best and that's why our head of company offers you this promotion," a middle-aged mistress brought out a sealed document and stretched it forth to me with an impeccable smile.
I stretched forth my hand too and took the document from her in excitement, smiling abruptly. " It's my pleasure,".
" We hope to see you in greater heights next time we see you," the branch manager spoke.
" I'd like to thank you guys for the love you've shown to me right from my first day in this office. I must confess that you guys are the best. Thanks," I spoke with a smile and turned to leave, my heels clicking on the marble floor as I exited.
Five years ago, after the unexpected one-night stand, I took my time to find out who the stranger was from his identity card, and I found out he was a very powerful figure in the city, and he had a lot of companies and branches under him, of which, this branch was among. But because his company pays its workers well I applied for a Job at his company, and I was chosen as the secretary of the company because of my perfect experience in my former company. Nobody knew I was once a CEO in the previous city: that was part of my secret identities.
However, I had just been promoted to a better branch of the company due to my work and sacrifice for the company.
" Mummy! Mummy!!" Beatrice ran up to me and hugged my legs.
" Yes, baby. Where is your brother?" I squatted to her height, caressing her cheeks.
Beatrice pointed her finger at Liam who was staring at the portrait of Black, our head of company. Liam focused on his portrait, trying to imitate his charisma as he frowned his little face, and shoved his hands into his pocket.
I smiled unobtrusively and walked up to him while my other hand was holding Beatrice.
Liam was just five years old, but he behaved like an adult. While his sister, Beatrice, requested for toy, he requested a fundamental history about the universe which till today my answers weren't good enough for him.
" Liam! Liam!!" I tapped him and swung his shoulder to see his face. He lifted his brows playfully and smiled at me.
" Why are you staring at the stranger, Liam?" I asked, caressing his cheeks.
" I want to be like him when I grow up. So that my workers would respect me even in my absence, and rushed to work like mum," Liam spoke, tuking his chin.
" Mummy, mummy. When I grow up I'd work so hard so I could purchase a whole lot of chocolate candy," Beatrice spoke.
I laughed at their wishes and pulled them together. " Yes, Liam. You can be more powerful than him. Your personality would permit you. And Beatrice, there's no need to work so hard to purchase a whole lot of chocolate candy. Instead, you can build a company of your own that would be delivering a whole lot of chocolate candy in your house,".
" Now let's go home," I grabbed their hands and advanced towards the car. Liam pulled out his hand and folded his arms.
" Mum, you close so early today. It's just some minutes after nine," Liam noticed, tilting his head.
I left Beatrice's arm and moved back to him. " Yes, Liam. I've just been promoted to a better branch that would pay us more money," I responded to him and pulled his arm.
That reminded me. I had been promoted to a higher branch of the company, but it occurred to me that I hadn't even checked what branch I was allocated to.
But before I checked, I needed to take my kids home so they could do their assignments while I went to the new branch.
As soon as I dropped my kids off at home, I walked outside to my car and brought out the promotion document. I peeled off the sealing tape, its sound screeching in my ears.
However, my smiling face turned pale as my eyes beseeched the branch stated in the document, and my hands quivered in confusion.
To them, it was a promotion, but to me, it was a setup.
