Chapter 2-You Got This Lia

1693 Words
Amelia's POV "I'm about to leave and go out shopping, does anyone need anything?" I was seriously in a rush and needed to make it seem as if it was another ordinary day. But in reality, today was my doctor's appointment, and it was also the day I find out if I am having a girl or a boy....... Didn't hear a response. Okay, cool, now we are going to attempt to tie my shoes. "Just call me if you want anything from the store, and I will pick it up while I'm out." OK, my feet are swollen, and trying to bend down is not in my favor for today, I see... Sandles it is, thank the Goddess I got my toes done last week....... I didn't let anyone know when I was having my "reveal appointment". I wanted to do this by myself, and sort of brace myself for who is growing and using my body as a punching bag.... OMG, seriously, this child won't let me go for 20 minutes without going to the bathroom. "You, little one, are seriously messing up the vibe of mommy's potty breaks. Like, can I not have you torturing my intestines and organs? I have peed four times already, making this little trip number 5. You keep this up, no tacos for you today." I feel as if I probably need to practice my stern mommy voice, because I have a feeling this one is going to be something else in the future. After my mini-pep talk, and trying to gather myself together, I heard a knock on the door, and not too much of a surprise was my nosey sister, Angela. "Lia, are you driving or catching a taxi, and what other "errands" are you trying to do today besides going shopping." I can hear the sarcasm oozing in her tone on the word "errands". I don't know why she has been on my case as of late, but today I just want to handle this alone. "I was going to the mall to pick up some more baby clothes, and to just walk around and get some ice cream." And maybe some tacos if the kid doesn't Bruce Lee kick my kidneys to a pulp. After collecting myself and making my way out of the bathroom, I open the door, and there she is just hovering at the door. Staring at me, with this smug look on her face as to insinuate that I'm lying, which I am. "Well, a while back I overheard a conversation you were having on the phone about today being a special day, what's so special about today, Lia." Of course, the Queen of Snoopville overheard my conversation. I was on the phone with Roland. Angela was always, and I mean always the one who was in someone's business, the girl doesn't respect privacy, nor boundaries. "Angela, can you please keep your voice down I don't need Granny hearing you and your loudmouth antics for today." Everyone was excited about the coming of the baby, don't get me wrong I am too, but just a bit reserved with a sprinkle of anxiety. Both my grandparents, siblings, friends, and everyone had been on my back about the gender of the baby. It was getting quite annoying. Adonis, on the other hand, was laid back like I was about everything, excited but very reserved. That is why I was lying about my true "errand". I wanted to have a bit of a piece of my own excitement, and not become overwhelmed in the process. Living with my grandparents in the family cottage wasn't a bad thing, in fact, I was thrilled that I could share this experience with them, but...... Sometimes it can get overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, my family and everyone here at Crystal Moonlight Coven was good to me and this is my home. I wouldn't trade it for the world. But I feel a bit suffocated. "You know granny is too busy in the kitchen focusing on her Food Network show, Ing is on, and she is practicing how to create a charcuterie board for your baby shower. Speaking of, when are you going to set a date for the baby shower?" I didn't tell anyone because I wanted to find out the gender first, and then let them know about the date. "Angela, one thing at a time, I have plans, and I'm trying to sort them out. I will let you all know over dinner tonight after I go shopping." My objective was to take a cab, but now that Angela is breathing down my neck, I don't have much time, I will drive myself to this appointment. But before I could grab the keys by the door, the little brat beat me to it. "Yeah, no, I don't think so. I know today is the gender appointment and that is where you are headed, so either I come with you or I will alert Granny. The choice is yours." "Fine, I guess you will be my personal driver for today. My feet hurt already, I'm hungry, so please let's make this quick." Angela then proceeded to "silently" jump for joy with this big stupid smile on her face, as if she was the Joker, and she finally defeated Batman. "I'm so excited." She said while pulling me out of the doorway way, towards grandpop's truck. I attempted to launch myself on the passenger's side, but to no avail, my belly was a bit in the way, and I needed some assistance. Angela reaches her hand out to mine. "See, I knew you would need my help, now take my hand and let's roll." "Ugh, can you please just get us to the appointment in one piece?" "Sure thing big sis, sure thing." The location of the appointment was supposed to be around 35 minutes from the Coven. Angela thought it was best to tap into her Indy 500 spirit and got us there in 17 minutes. " For the love of the Goddess, did you have to go so d**n fast?" The nerve of her to burst out in laughter at the sheer terror she just caused on the highway. "Welp, I got us here, didn't I, and besides, what's the rush, it's not like we won't be in the waiting room for most of the day. We needed a little bit of excitement on the way." "You know what, go and find a parking space. I will meet you upstairs because at this point you are overcooking my grits Angela." And just like Angela's fashion, she stuck her tongue out, flipped me off, then proceeded to screech off. "Deep breaths, just deep breaths", and everyone wonders why I wanted to do this by myself.... I got into the elevator and hit the 7th floor button. I needed to find my appointment card in my purse so that I could remember the office number of the doctor. " Got it, Dr. Opal Newton, room 710". I exited the elevator and saw that the direction to the doctor's office was to the right. "704, 706, 708, 710. Here goes nothing." I opened the door and walked in towards the Secretary's station. "Good afternoon, welcome to Dr. Newton's office. Are you a new or returning patient?" "Returning, I was here about 17 weeks ago, Amelia Melgren." The secretary's face changed to a shocked look as soon as she realized who I was. The day that I found out I was pregnant, I kinda flipped out, and lightweight had a panic attack. I mean, I just conjured up a fireball that went through 13, maybe 14, concrete walls next to my room. "Well, Miss. Melgren, I am hoping that today will be a pleasant visit. Just fill out these forms, and return them to me when you are finished, and the nurse will come and get you shortly." I take my seat and start filling out the forms. While in the process, Angela walked in and sat right next to me, and before she could open her big mouth, I turned to her and said, "Zip it. Be like Gwen Stephone and 'Dont Speak', I don't want to hear any sarcasm, jokes, ha-ha's, nothing, are we clear? Now I am done with the paperwork. What you can do for me, since my feet are killing me, is take this to the secretary, so that we can be one step closer to getting this over with." The expression on Angela's face turned into sadness as she rose up from the seat to turn in the paperwork. And I get it, this should be a joyful occasion, but under the situation and circumstances. I am a bit on the edge... She comes back to me, grabs my hand, and looks me in the eyes. "Look, Lia, it's OK, I know you, and saying your true feelings sometimes isn't your best attribute. I know it can be a bit overwhelming and lonely at the same time. Mom and Dad aren't here, and I know that you miss them, plus David seems like a real tool. But it's all OK because you got us, we are going to be there for you, this baby. We are family." Tears started to fall down my face, I was an emotional wreck and, honestly, holding it in and walking around like this wasn't taking a toll on me was a lie. "You got this, Lia. I know that you will be an awesome mom because you are an awesome sister. Your heart is always in the right place, when it comes to being a protector, you know you can kick some a**. So, whatever is on your mind, let it go, because in a few moments, we are going to be fighting over baby names. And just, FYI, I don't mind the baby being named after me." We both busted into laughter and gave each other a huge hug. I needed that..... The door opens up and out walks the nurse. "Miss Amelia Melgren, Dr. Newton is ready to see you now.....
