The men must have seen the expressions on our faces because Roland, Adonis, and Grandpop went after each of us.
I stood there momentarily before closing my eyes and taking in small steady breaths, then I heard Roland's voice, "Lia, are you OK." I opened my eyes and gave him a small nod. "Let me handle this," he hurried toward David and Clarisse's direction.
Angela took off her shoes and earrings, turned around, put them on the table next to us, and took a big glup of her whiskey liquor in a glass. But before she could spin back around to confront these issues, Adonis blocked her next steps in their direction. "MOVE ADONIS!!!!", Angie wasn't about to play any games. I knew what her main objective was, 'ALPHA DOUCHELORD '.
"ANGIE LISTEN TO REASON, WE DON'T WANT TO START ANY TYPE OF CONFLICT!!!," Adonis, trying to give his sister rationale thought in his direct and stern tone.
" F**K THAT S**T, THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, LET ME BE THE SOLUTION. NOW MOVE DON!!!!!" Angie is very quick on her feet, to the point where Adonis loses her for a second and catches her by the waist just in time. She was determined to take off like a rocket.
I then had to turn in another direction because I could hear Grandpop trying to stop Granny, from proceeding toward David and Clarisse's direction as well. Granny was going off, and when I say off I mean, WWF style, Randy 'Macho Man' Savage. She even gave Pops a stiff arm and pivoted like a damn lineman. "THEY HAVE SOME DAMN NERVE TO SHOW THEIR FACES HERE!!! WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE? I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME, LITTLE BOY. COME TO MY HOME UNINVETED IF YOU WANT TO, I'M GONNA SHOW YOU A REAL NICE WELCOME!!!" Granny was super pissed.
Grandpop was trying to contain her, "MY LOVE, DEAR!!!!....... Calm down, we are to set the tone and example for everyone here." He then proceeded to wrap his arms around her," Look at Lia, she needs us right now." She turned to look at me, all she could see on my face was as if the energy from my body left me.
After calming her down, Granny then raised her hands in surrender and ran to me. Grandpop rushed over to Adonis for some assisted help for Angela, "Angela, you are to collect, control, and conduct yourself in the manner of a young lady, is this understood?" Grandpop was not playing and meant business, he understood that Angela wanted to protect me, but he also knew David and his mate were playing games and being messy.
After she calmed down, Angela took a step back, folded her arms, and walked up to me and Granny, " I'm sorry Lia, are you ok?"
"As of right now, honestly I don't know how to feel," my emotions are all over the place. This was supposed to be a happy occasion, and these two bozos just sucked the fun out of it.
David and Clarisse, their presence was a stark contrast to the celebratory atmosphere. David, tall and imposing, had a dark, unreadable expression on his face, while Clarisse, her hand resting on her visibly pregnant belly, stood by his side with a smirk that sent a chill through the room.
They hadn’t been invited, and their sudden appearance sent a wave of unease through the guests. Whispers rippled through the crowd, eyes darting between the uninvited couple and me, who had frozen in place, my face paling.
Roland, moved swiftly but calmly, ensuring he maintained control of the situation.“David, Clarisse, this is not the time or the place.”
David’s eyes narrowed, but he remained silent. Clarisse, however, sneered, her hand tightening around David’s arm. “We just wanted to join in on the celebration. After all, we’re family, aren’t we?” Her tone was dripping with mockery, and the tension in the room grew thicker by the second. Roland knew he had to defuse the situation before it escalated.
With a twisted smile, David replied, "I am here on a matter of business, this child is mine as well, right."
“Why don’t we take this to the lobby? We can talk there without disturbing the rest of the guests.” David’s gaze flicked at me, my hand protectively over my belly. For a moment, something unreadable passed through his eyes, but then he nodded curtly.
“Lead the way,” Clarisse said.
Roland guided them toward the lobby, his presence a shield between David, Clarisse, and the rest of the party. The guests, sensing the tension, resumed their conversations in hushed tones, though many cast worried glances toward the lobby.
Once they were in the lobby, Roland turned to face David and Clarisse, his expression firm but calm. He could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on him, but he refused to let it show.
“Why are you here, David? You weren’t invited.”
David’s jaw clenched, but before he could speak, Clarisse stepped forward, her eyes gleaming with malice. “We wanted to make sure Amelia knew that she wasn’t the only one bringing a child into this world.” Her words were like venom, meant to sting, and Roland’s eyes darkened in response. He knew that Clarisse aimed to provoke Amelia, to assert dominance over her in some twisted way.
“Clarisse. This is a celebration for Amelia and her child. If you can’t respect that, then you need to leave.”
David finally spoke, his voice low and cold. “We’re not here to cause trouble, Roland. But Amelia needs to understand that things have changed.”
Roland held David’s gaze, unflinching.“Things have changed, but that doesn’t give you the right to disrupt her happiness. If you have something to say, say it later—somewhere else. Not here, not now.”
There was a tense silence as David and Roland locked eyes. The power struggle between them was palpable, but Roland stood his ground. He wasn’t about to let David ruin this special day for me.
*******
I couldn't take this anymore, just standing here waiting for Roland to come back, "I'm going to the lobby, this nonsense can't continue to occur any further". I gathered the bottom of my dress and marched my ass toward the lobby.
Angela tried to come with me, but I let her know Roland would be there and, for sure, wouldn't allow this to escalate to a point where we were all throwing blows. Now, I wouldn't mind giving Clarisse some 'Sweet Chin Music', or seeing Roland throwing David some haymakers to his over-privileged, selfish, self-centered, idiotic, deplorable, dipshit, A**hole!!!
I could hear a bit of commotion coming from Roland and David before our guards could open the door. And when they did, there I see, Roland and David nearly inches away from each other looking as though I had come just in time. "Keep your voices down, the guest can hear you both outside." My tone was stern and direct to them both. "Now, David, I didn't invite you nor have I spoken to you in months, why are you here?"
David’s gaze flickered, and he crossed his arms as if shielding himself from the accusation in my tone. Clarisse opened her mouth to speak, but before she could utter a word, David stepped forward, his expression hardening. “I’m here because there’s a matter that needs to be addressed—a matter concerning the future of the pack. The future alpha.”
I could just feel my eyes narrowed in confusion and irritation. I had been under the impression that David had washed his hands of the baby when I first told him about my pregnancy. He hadn’t shown any interest in the child, and now, his sudden concern felt like a slap in the face.
“What are you talking about? You made it very clear when I told you I was pregnant that you wanted nothing to do with this baby. And I followed through on that. So...........”
Clarisse, sensing an opportunity to assert herself, interjected with a condescending tone. “Oh, Amelia, don’t be so dramatic. David has every right to be concerned about his heir. After all, it’s his duty to the pack.”
I turned and looked at her, since she wanted to so badly make her presence known, "So since you want to interject so much into our conversation, PLEASE!!! BY, ALL, MEANS, LUNA CLARISSE." I began to laugh and shake my head.
David cleared his throat to bring the attention back towards his way, "I was told by my sources that you were having a boy, Amelia. And if that’s the case, there are things we need to discuss about the future of my pack."
I could hardly believe what I was hearing. After all this time, David suddenly wanted to involve himself because he thought I was carrying a boy? The blatant disregard he’d shown me when I first revealed to him about the baby now confused the hell out of me.
“A boy? You think I’m having a boy, and that’s why you’re here? Unbelievable.”
Clarisse, still unable to stay silent, cut in with a dismissive wave of her hand. “It’s not about what you think, Amelia. It’s about the pack, about who will lead. Our child will be the true heir, after all." Her smugness returned; she grabbed David's arms, placed her hand over her belly, and sneered.
David then began to explain his true intentions, "It’s about what’s best for the pack. Clarisse’s child will have my full support. Since your child is a boy and would be considered the eldest, I intend to disown him from the title of alpha and give it to the one Clarisse is carrying. It’s the right choice.”
My heart clenched with a mixture of rage and disbelief. I couldn’t fathom the depth of David’s betrayal, the way he was willing to discard his own child for the sake of maintaining control. “You’re willing to disown your own flesh and blood? How could you be so heartless?”
Clarisse, still smirking, interjected with a tone of false concern. “Amelia, dear, you really shouldn’t stress yourself out over these things. After all, you’re not cut out to be a Luna. You’ve never been anything more than a mistake in David’s life, and everyone knows it. You probably want my position, but let’s face it—you’ll never be more than an afterthought.”
I looked towards Roland and all we could do was laugh at these two dumbasses who didn't even have the right information. “David, your sources are very wrong. I’m not having a boy. I’m having a girl.” My words hung in the air, sharp and undeniable. David’s eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, his stern façade faltered.
Clarisse, however, was quick to recover, her lips curling into a sly smile. “Oh, a girl? Well, isn’t that just perfect. I’m glad, really. It means David doesn’t have to worry about getting involved at all. After all, what place does he have in the life of a little girl? He has more important things to focus on—like his real family.”
David, still reeling from the revelation, glanced between the two women, the weight of the situation beginning to settle on him. “I didn’t expect this…”
“You didn’t expect any of this, David, because you never took responsibility. You thought you could just control everything, but you were wrong. I’ll raise my daughter, and she’ll be everything you could never be—a good person, someone with a real future, and no thanks to you.”
“No, David, it’s better this way. Let Amelia raise her daughter. It’s not like she’ll ever need you. Girls don’t need alphas; they need mothers, someone to show them how to be proper women. And from what I can see, Amelia’s going to have her hands full just trying to keep her daughter from being a disappointment.” Clarrise words were dripping with arrogance.
Roland, who had been biting his tongue, finally snapped. His voice was a low, dangerous growl as he turned to Clarisse.
“SHUT THE F**K, Clarisse!!! This isn’t your conversation, and you’re making it worse.”
The harshness of his words sent a shockwave through the room. Clarisse recoiled, her smug expression quickly turning into one of indignation. But before she could retaliate, David’s eyes narrowed dangerously at Roland. “Watch your mouth, Roland. You forget who you’re talking to.”
Roland met David’s gaze head-on, his posture unyielding. The years of tension and unspoken resentment between them were now boiling to the surface. “No, David, I think it’s you who’s forgotten who I am. I’ve stood by your side for years and watched you make decisions that have hurt people—including Amelia. And I’ve kept my mouth shut out of loyalty, out of respect for our history. But not anymore.”
David’s jaw tightened, his hands clenching at his sides. The atmosphere was charged with the possibility of a confrontation, but Roland pressed on, refusing to back down.
“You might be the alpha, but you’ve become a tyrant, more concerned with power and control than with the well-being of those you’re supposed to lead. Amelia told you she was pregnant, and you didn’t give a damn until you thought the baby might be a boy—your heir. That’s not leadership, David. That’s selfishness.”
David’s expression flickered, but his anger remained. He took a step closer to Roland, his voice a low, dangerous murmur.
“Careful, Roland. You’re treading on thin ice.”
Roland didn’t flinch. He stood his ground, his voice steady and resolute. “I’m done being careful. I’m done pretending that the way you’ve treated Amelia and this situation is acceptable. You’ve lost sight of what it means to be an alpha, David. And you’ve lost my respect.” He positioned himself to address them both, " David’s the one who took advantage of Amelia, and now you’re both trying to rewrite history to suit your agenda. But it won’t work. Amelia and her daughter will be just fine without your interference. You both are some sick a** individuals, and honestly, you do deserve each other, the Goddess sure did get this union right."
I pointed at Roland in agreeance and busted out laughing, "You hit the head on damn head," they both looked at us, just standing there, looking defeated. "This conversation is over. You’re not welcome here, and you’re certainly not welcome in my daughter’s life. Go back to your perfect little f**ked up world, but know this—you’ll never have any power over me or my child again.”
With those final words, the tension broke. Clarisse, realizing they had lost this battle, huffed in frustration.“Fine. But this isn’t over.” She turned on her heel and marched out of the lobby. David hesitated for a moment, his expression a mix of regret and frustration, before following her out. As the door closed behind them, Roland turned to me, his face softening.
We both took a deep breath before heading back to the hall. The guests were still trying to process what had happened, but the mood began to lift again as Roland and I re-entered the room.
My family, who had been anxiously waiting, met our gaze. Roland gave Grandpop and Adonis a reassuring nod, silently telling them that everything was under control.
“They’re gone. Let’s get back to celebrating.”
I knew this wouldn’t be the last time I had to deal with David and Clarisse, but for now, I was grateful to Roland for protecting me and my unborn child from their malicious intentions.
With a grateful smile, I took Roland’s hand for a moment, thanking him silently. He squeezed my hand gently in return before letting go, stepping aside to let me enjoy the rest of her shower.
The music resumed, and slowly but surely, the joy returned to the party. I was surrounded by love and support, and I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, with all that is in me, I would face them with the strength of my family and friends at my side.
