Chapter 4 The king's Game
Later that afternoon, Aria slipped into Math class, hoping for quiet.
The teacher hadn’t arrived yet, and chatter filled the room. She scanned for Mabel. Sighing, she found an empty seat beside her. Mabel rubbed her shoulders gently and gave her smile.
The seat in front of her scraped back.
Damien Carter dropped into it.
Daniel sat beside him, grinning like this was all a comedy show, while Chris slid into the seat by the window, silent as ever.
“Relax,” Damien drawled, leaning back in his chair. “I’m not going to bite.”
Aria scowled. “Then what do you want?”
He smirked. “Entertainment. And you, Lane… you’re fascinating.”
.“Fascinating? I stood up for myself once. That’s not fascinating. It’s normal.” Aria said
“Not here,” Damien countered smoothly. “At Golden High, people don’t talk back to me. They don’t challenge me. But you? You’re different. And I don’t like… different.”
"Then you can just suit yourself then and leave her alone". Mabel fired at Damien standing on her feet.
"Mabel please calm down". Aria tried to pull her down
Chris finally spoke, his voice calm, quiet. “Ignore him.”
"Can shut up and not act like a saint you are not". Mabel shouted at him.
Chris just stared at the front.
Both Damien and Daniel glanced at him, surprised. Chris didn’t usually speak up.
But Damien only smirked deeper. “watch your back, girl cause you are my new project”
Before Aria could retort, the teacher walked in, and class began.
" Who can solve what is on the board".The teacher turned facing the class.
Damien and Aria raised their hands but Damien smirked on seeing Aria hand up.
"The charity case seems to be on top of herself". Isabella snorted while Vanessa laughed.
"Well not everyone is a dummy like you". Mabel gave her a taste of her own medicine.
Lucy laughed out at the queen and her crew.
"Aria". The teacher called out.
Aria stepped out to answer the question but Damien crossed her.
"You possibly can't answer this, right scholarship girl. Don't try to impress anyone cause nobody is going to feel impressed."
"If she get to answer the question, you apologize for what happened this morning" . Lucy chipped in.
"And why the hell should Damien apologize to her."Vanessa ranted out at Lucy.
"Silence everybody." The teacher shout at the class.
In other for a ruckus not to happen the teacher called out to Mabel to solve the question.
"Tsk tsk it about to go down". Melissa said with laughter erupting in the whole class.
Mabel is not as smart as Aria so she stared at the teacher then back at her friend who gave her a reassuring smile.
"I want to solve it". Chris spoked out.
The whole class turned with a horrible look on their faces wondering if the sun rose from the south today.
Damien and Daniel gave him a " what is wrong with you" look.
Isabella wondered why Chris seems to be a little too interested in this charity case friendship. Actually Isabella likes Chris.
"Okay, you can have your sit, Mabel". The teacher said.
The class ended not so fast.
Chris stood up when Damien held him.
"What was that for?" He said demanding an explanation.
Chris only stared towards Aria and Mabel direction then walked off.
Isabella stomped her feet angrily and ran out of the classroom with Melissa and Marielle trolling behind her.
Vanessa walked towards Damien.
"Do you need help in teaching them a lesson".
Damien fired at her " it none of your business, stay out of my way."
Daniel gave a smug smile and followed Damien.
Lucy and Mabel laughed at Vanessa stupidity while she walked off angrily.
But Aria just knew her tribulation just started.
When the final bell rang, Aria gathered her things quickly, desperate to escape. But Damien cornered her at the door.
“Walk with me.”
“I’d rather not.”
He leaned closer, his eyes challenging her. “That wasn’t a request.”
Lucy appeared behind her, glaring. “She doesn’t have to go anywhere with you, Damien.”
“Relax, Joseph,” Damien said. “I just want to get to know our new student.
That night, Aria lay awake staring at the ceiling.
Day two at Golden High had been worse than day one.
Damien Carter wasn’t just tormenting her for fun. He was making her his personal project, his entertainment.
And with Vanessa glaring daggers, her minions plotting, and the entire school watching…
Aria realized she was trapped in a cruel game she couldn’t escape.
But one thought burned beneath her fear:
She refused to let Damien Carter win.
Not without a fight.
