Selfish

964 Words
I'm woken up by a slight shake.   "Eric, wake up. We must go."   I sigh, rubbing my eyes. "Why?"   "Well, we've already lost a whole day of school." Noah explains, still shaking my arm.   I open my eyes and look at him, who's kneeled down next to the couch.   "Fine." I say with a growl. "May I take a shower?"   "Er-sure... We still have time."   After taking a shower and preparing all my stuff, I eat some cereal Hannah has offered me. I still have all my belongings in the trunk of my car.   Noah and I finish our small breakfast. We say goodbye to his aunt while leaving the place and entering the vehicle parked outside.   I start the engine and drive to the University.   Right after reading something on his phone, Hansen tosses his device over the car's dashboard. My common sense told me to turn on the radio due to the awkward silence, but he speaks before my finger presses the button.   "Where do you live?"   "I-Why do you ask?"   "Oh, well... Since you were planning on moving to Fairford, I thought you had already sold your house or something."   I smile. "The place I live in belongs to my parents."   "Do they live here?"   "No, they’re in Fairford, but still kept the house here. Dad wanted to sell it, but I told him I was going to live here again, and he offered that house because it's near the university."   "So, did the murderer follow you there?"   "Yes." I confirm.   A resume of the events that happened that frightening night has been explained to Noah. He didn't say nothing as I spoke about it, but I could see in his eyes that he felt a little guilty.   If he hadn't taken me to that park...   "Do you think Hannah is safe?"   "The cop is still following us. She's safe for today. Although, I don't think that staying again at my place is a good idea."   "We can go to my house. There's actually no problem with that."   "Alright." He concludes.   We arrive to school. "See you later, Noah." I wave goodbye as he walks away with a grin on his face.   I sigh, looking at my reflection on the rearview mirror. Even though I don't feel tired, my face looks devastated. Trying my best to smile sincerely, I open the door. However, my action is stopped by a sound coming from the inside.     Noah forgot his cellphone. I chuckle and take the device, looking at the screen and read the name displayed before answering the call.   « Free drinks & food. »   The voice I hear through the speaker takes me aback.   "Noah, where are you?"   I try not to laugh and answer calmly. "Hi Felix. I'm sorry, but Noah forgot his phone."   "Eric?" He says a little pissed off. "Where is he?"   "I don't know, he's just left the parking lot."   "Why do you have his phone?"   "I-I picked him up from his house and he left it in my car."   "Why-" He stops abruptly. Then, Felix lets out an annoyed sigh. "He's here. Bye, Eric."   The call ends and I smile widely, leaving my selfish desires consume my every thought.   I keep looking at the phone's screen. It's locked now. The wallpaper shows Sans and Papyrus, two characters from Undertale.   I take out my phone and call Noah’s number only to discover the contact name he has assigned me. After reading the word "Eric" on his screen, I feel disappointed. But I guess that proving he's faking his lack of memory wasn't going to be this easy.   The first period of classes is normal. Except for the fact that I look a little happier. Kevin notices it and asks as soon as we have some free time.   "Why are you smiling so much, Eric?"   "Oh, it's nothing." I say, picking up my backpack from the ground.   "Is there a possibility that the guy you were at the party with is the reason of your mood today?" Troy says, joining our conversation.   My cheeks turn slightly red and I look away to hide it. However, they notice it immediately.   "Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!! What's his name?" Lovatt asks in a playful tone.   I sigh, knowing that these guys won't shut up until I tell them what they want to hear. "Noah. I have to meet with him now, if you don't mind." I say, winking at them and leaving the classroom excitedly.     The place where Hansen is, I completely ignore it. Instead of looking for him in the campus, I choose to keep doing my daily routine.   Proving my point is correct, Noah waves at me once I approach the football field. I take out his phone and hand it to him. He smiles. "I'm sorry you had to deal with Felix."   "Don't worry. Is everything ok?"   "No." He says with a chuckle. "We broke up."   I frown. "Why are you happy then?"   "Oh, I'm not happy." He answers with a more serious expression. "It hurts. But I guess that it had to happen."   I nod and look over his shoulder.   "Ashby!" The coach yells at me.   "I have to go but we can talk later."   "Sure, have fun. I'll be in the library."   He walks away and I join the team with no further conversation with Mr. Sullivan, who wins all the team's hate when he chooses me over James for the quarterback's replacement on tomorrow's match.   I didn't even know there was going to be a match tomorrow. I wasn't paying attention to the whole training either.   A question kept wandering in my mind and repeated over and over again.   Why is Noah being such an asshole with almost everyone?
