Awkward

1091 Words
I get up early and drag my sleepy body to the bathroom. Ignoring the reflection on the mirror above the sink, I take a shower.   Today is my first day at University. It's been a week since I arrived here, but I haven't had the opportunity to meet anyone here mostly because I waited for Noah to appear near the place where he crashed against me.   Although I constantly think of the words he said and the tone he used, I still can’t believe that the encounter even happened.   Sadly, I haven't seen him since then, which makes me think about stupid possibilities. Like, what if someone made me fall and I hallucinated Noah? Yes, stupid. But having those hypotheses in my mind makes me feel less pain; because if any of those are true, -which I highly doubt- it would mean that Noah still remembers me from somewhere in the world.   After a lot of time wasted on social media, I finally eat breakfast and prepare all my stuff, making sure that my outfit looks good before going outside.   The University I'm attending is close, which increases the possibilities of finding Noah studying there.   I must look obsessed, to be honest. Our relationship happened three years ago but I don't feel like it matters. I miss playing videogames with him. I miss laughing of his accent. I just miss him. I can do nothing to change that feeling.   Hell, I’ve missed him since the last time I heard his voice.   The teacher of the first class hasn't arrived. Therefore, all my classmates are either meeting each other or leaving to a more interesting place.   I'm always the shy guy at the back of the classroom daydreaming about stupid things. However, I have promised myself I would socialize at least the first day. Maybe if I find some good friends my need of go back in time will disappear.   After looking around me, I decide to talk with a couple of guys at the front.   "Hey." I say, getting their attention.   "Hi." The skinnier greets with a smile, moving to the side so I can join their conversation.   "My name is Eric, Eric Ashby." "I'm Troy Valenti, he's Kevin Lovatt." He introduces, pointing at the other guy whose hair is of a darker brown.   "Hello." Kevin says with less excitement than his friend, returning his attention to his phone right after.   I stay there, doubting between walking away quietly or starting another conversation. Nevertheless, I don't do any of those. I just stand there awkwardly. After a great amount of time in silence, Troy speaks.   "You're new, right?" He asks with a smile. I sigh heavily.   "Yes.”   He laughs. "We too. Kevin and I decided to come here and study together."   "That sounds cool."   "And what brought you here?" He asks with curiosity, sitting back on the chair he was occupying during the class.   "Long and stupid story…"   I tell them what happened weeks ago, and they also explain the events that brought them here, which are mostly academic.   The next class begins but is oddly interrupted by the football coach entering the classroom to announce that they’re making try outs for the new students who are interested in being part of the team. I used to hate football because of my old bully, but I think I could give it a try this time.   In the end, my main purpose is to keep me occupied from dreaming impossible scenarios.   After being the only one to sign in, the class is resumed.   The first day wasn't that bad, but I still wish Frank and Craig were here. We were not going to study the same, but at least we could go out every once in a while.   Someone interrupts my thoughts.   "Eric!” They say, forcing me to turn around right at the entrance of the building.   "Troy, what's up?"   "I was thinking if you..." His voice fades away as my senses focus on a person in the distance. I'm brought back to reality soon, though. "Eric!”   I shake my head, but my eyes end up landing on the same man. "Sorry, what were you saying?" I ask without making eye contact with the blond man in front of me.   "I wanted to know if you would like to go to the movies with me and Kevin on Friday."   "Oh, yeah, that sounds great. I'll meet you there." I say without paying too much attention. "I have to go." I palm his back gently and smile apologetically before rushing towards the student who caught my eye.   I picture myself running towards him in a valley while screaming his name and then picking him up bridal style as we spin slowly. But instead of doing that, I end up tripping over one friend he's with.   "Oh shit." It's the first impression the group of friends get of me.   Both guys look at me with a strange expression.   "Wow, m-" The taller starts, but shuts up in astonishment when Noah holds his hand.   "Stay away from me." The blue-eyed states coldly.   "Noah, please." My voice seems to be complete silent for him.   "Come on, Felix." He says, walking away with the other guy’s hand in his, causing a growing pain in my chest.   Well, that was not the best way to talk with him. At least I know that I have more possibilities to see Noah again.   I drive home and eat junk food before opening Skype to call Frank and Craig.   "Hello!!" Frank cheers as soon as the call begins. However, he notices my not-very-excited face. "Is everything ok?"   Craig joins us just in time to hear my story.   "Guys, I met with Noah again."   "What? I thought he had gone to another city." Craig says with astonishment.   "Me too, but he's still here." I argue.   "He just changed of school?" Frank asks.   "I think so."   "Have you talked to him?" The taller asks, wiggling his eyebrows.   I doubt in answering. "Not really. He doesn't seem to remember me." "I thought he loved you more than cake." He replies, not believing what I’ve just said.   "Apparently not." I sigh. "The worst part is that he seems to be dating a guy."   "Oh..." it's all they say in response, making me roll my eyes.   "Thank you for your motivational words, guys. You really help!" I complain with sarcasm, letting the conversation die as we start talking about anything else.
