I sat and waited patiently in the car. I watched Jay walk around the car and into the office of the hotel. I watched him talk with the clerk sitting behind the desk. She was a rather young girl, she probably was in her early to late twenties. She had blonde hair with blue eyes and was rather pretty. She greeted Jay with a smile, it was obvious she found him attractive. She was smiling and laughing with him. Jay always had a way with women, even when we were younger, he went through girlfriends like they were candy. I really couldn't blame him. He was very attractive. He had a wonderful smile and slightly good looks. I have always secretly had a crush on Jay, but I knew it would never happen. I wasn't as pretty as most girls and definitely didn't seem like his type. Besides, Jay had always looked at me as a little sister, there was no way he would be attracted to me. I had never really had a boyfriend, I didn't really fit in with the kids from school. Mark was probably the only one brave enough to ever ask me out and he turned out to be a jerk. Most guys kept their distance due to my overprotective brother. After a few minutes of flirting, Jay came walking back to the car with the hotel room key in his hand.
"She a friend of yours?" I jokingly asked.
"Ah, it's nothing," Jay replied.
I rolled my eyes and Jay pulled the car around to the other side of the building.
"We are looking for room 312," he said. "It should be on the bottom floor."
"Over there." I said and pointed.
We pulled to the end of the building closest to the woods. Jay parked the car directly in front of the room. He put the car in park and turned it off. I grabbed the bags from the store and Jay handed me the key and started grabbing our bags out of the trunk. I unlocked the room door, opened it, and flipped on the light. There was a big bed in the middle of the room, with a night stand and a lamp on each side. At the end of the bed there was a T.V on a stand. There was a white carpet that led to a tile floor, there was a sink with a mirror and a door for the bathroom. The walls were a gray color. The room looked very neat and very plain. Jay trailed in behind me with two bags of our clothes. He threw them down on the floor and I sat the bags from the store on the table. Jay grabbed his sandwich and sat down on the bed.
" You going to eat?" Jay asked.
"Not yet," I answered."I'm going to take a shower."
Jay nodded and I brushed past him, walking into the bathroom, and closed the door behind me. I heard Jay flip on the T.V. I grabbed the hair dye out of the bag and started to read the directions on the back. I opened the box, and got the small bottle of oil and the white plastic bottle with a thick white substance in it. I mixed them just as the directions said. Then, I took the gloves out and slipped them on. I diligently covered my whole head with the dye, making sure not to miss a spot, and let it set for twenty minutes. While I waited, I read the box and then dug through my bag to get some clothes out. I pulled out a long tshirt and a pair of short pajama shorts. Pete probably packed the shortest shorts I owned. I kind of laughed at the thought of Pete having to pack my clothes. I bet he had no idea what he was doing, but he did do a pretty decent job for a ten-year-old boy.
I wished so badly I could talk to Pete. I missed him. That's when I remembered my phone. I must've dropped it while I was running. The police probably have it by now, I thought to myself. I was slightly devastated, all my pictures of dad and mom were on that phone. My parents gave it to me on the last birthday I had with both of them. It had really been through it. I needed a new one anyway. The screen was cracked and it was terribly out of date.
I shook my head, trying to forget about the phone. I then realized it was time to rinse my hair. I stepped over into the shower and turned on the water. I let the water run over my hair and down my body. The water was slightly black from the dye. I finished rinsing my hair and washed it with the small packet of conditioner. I then washed my body and then turned the water off and grabbed a towel and dried off. I put on the clothes I laid out and wrapped my hair in a towel. I opened the door and stepped out of the bathroom.
