"Jess! Jess!" I heard Jay screaming."It's me, wake up, it's me!" As I slowly woke up, I realized I was swinging my arms back and forth, as if I were fighting someone in my sleep. My heart was racing, I couldn't breath, and tears were flooding down my cheeks. I was dreaming replaying last night in my head. "Shh...It's just a dream. I'm here." Jay said calmly as he pulled me to him. "I'm sorry." I said as the tears were still streaming down my face. "It's okay, you're safe. Just calm down." Jay reassured me. He held me a little tighter. I put my head on his chest and hugged him really tight and cried.Jay hugged me back, propping his chin on my head. I felt safe and secure in his arms. It was like i felt an overwhelming sense of peace. No one had really ever made me feel that way before. It was almost like the rest of the world drifted away even when he just looked at me. Jace finally backed away, still slightly holding me, looked at me and asked " You okay." " Yea I'm okay." I said as I was trying to dry my tears."It was just a bad dream." "Okay. I'm gonna get back in my chair now." Jay let go and started to slide off the bed. "Jay?" I asked"Will you lie with me please?" "Sure," Jay said with a reassuring smile. He got up and walked over to his chair, and grabbed his pillow and blanket. Then he walked back over to the bed, placed his pillow and blanket, and laid down. Jay turned toward his chair with his back facing toward me. I faced toward the wall, the bed was so small, our backs were touching. Oddly, I felt a sense of peace with Jay lying next to me. I was finally able to drift back to sleep. The next morning, I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs. Jay must have cooked breakfast, I thought to myself. I rolled over to see a small fold out tray, with a plate and a note. "Jay!'' I yelled. I didn't get an answer. I rose up and slid toward the small tray and picked up the note. Hope you slept well. I went to run some errands. Be back shortly. You had better eat your breakfast! Also, do not go outside or answer the door for any reason. Jay I yawned and took a bite of the breakfast Jay had made for me and flipped on the T.V. I started flipping through the channels, until I landed on one that seemed interesting. Then the show was interrupted by a "News Report". "We interrupt this program for a very important report." The reporter said."Bearfield police are looking for this 18-year-old girl, Jessica Holtsten, who is wanted for murder. The young women stabbed a man to death and led the police on a foot chase. She was last seen running north on 4th avenue towards the Bearfield cafe. Jessica is considered a danger to the community and must be reported to local authorities immediately." I stared at the T.V in complete shock. "What..the..hell..." I whispered to myself. I'm wanted. How in the world did they get my picture? How am I considered a danger? It was self-defense. How am I gonna get out of here now? The panic slowly began to set in. I hurried and cut the T.V off. "Calm down, Jay and Adam will get this handled." I told myself. I was in a daze. This just didn't seem real. I was in total shock. Next thing I knew, Jay came busting through the door. "Damn girl," he chuckled, "You made the news and the paper." "I...I know." I stuttered. "Hey Jess, calm down, it is going to be okay. I talked to my guy at the station and turned in some evidence. I also talked to Adam. He was boarding his plane." I just nodded. "Jess snap out of it. You will be alright. Speaking of which, we need to get moving. Here, put these on. I had Pete pack you a bag." "You seen Pete? Is he okay." "Yes, I explained the plan to him. He's now at Sam's. Adam will come for him when he gets here. Now here get to moving." Jay handed me a bag of clothes. I took them, and went to the bathroom to get dressed. I could hear Jay scuffling around gathering up some things. He was obviously ready to get a move on. I put on the blue jeans and a tshirt that Pete had packed for me. It felt good to be back in my clothes. I took my hair out of the ponytail, brushed it, and returned it back to the ponytail. I walked back into the living room and began to put on my socks and tennis shoes. Jay was still scurrying around his apartment gathering up his things. "You ready?" Jay asked. "Yep," I replied. "Okay, " he said, " I filled the car up and got us some snacks and drinks. That should hold us over until we make it to the Missippi state line. We've got about a three-day trip ahead of us. We will cross the border in Montana, and from there to British Columbia. And don't worry, I got you a fake passport so we should be able to pass through, no problem." "Okay, are you ready now?" I asked. Jay took one last look around his apartment. "Yep let's go." He said. "Oh and put this on." He handed me a hat and glasses. I gave him a weird look and took it anyway. We walked out the door and to the car.
