Chapter 3 My mate’s Final Blow

1004 Words
Elena’s POV The day they sentenced me to prison, was the same day i learned the people i loved wanted me destroyed. I was taken out of the courtroom by the guards, with the crowd cheering and celebrating around me. They wanted me dead, but they settled for life in prison instead. My life was about to get really messy. The crowd pushed me toward the police van, and just as I got in and the door was about to close, I heard a familiar voice call my name. “Elena.” I turned around. I knew who it was. It was Tessa, my older step-sister, and Damon. I looked at them with anger but also needed answers. Why did they set me up? What did they gain from it? How long had they wanted to get rid of me? My mind was racing with questions. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t. My heart was pounding, and I felt a mix of emotions. “We came to see you off,” Tessa said, sounding calm and caring, as if they hadn’t just ruined my life and sent me to prison. I had so much to say, but I just swallowed hard and asked quietly, “Why… are you here?” Damon’s cold eyes met mine. “We wanted to make sure you understand everything,” he said. Everything? My wolf was restless inside me. Something felt off. I sensed they were about to drop a big bombshell. Tessa leaned in closer, her smile thin and cruel. She spoke softly, just for me to hear. “You should have been careful, Elena. You thought you were untouchable, didn’t you?” “I… I don’t understand,” I whispered, my voice shaky. “What are you talking about?” Tessa laughed softly, a sound that made my stomach turn. “We did it. Me and Damon. We made sure you took the blame for Captain Kade’s death. You’re going to prison for life, and you’ll have nothing when you get there.” I blinked, trying to grasp what she was saying. Nothing? “Nothing?” I raised my voice. “What do you mean nothing? I never wanted anything from you. I loved you both.” Damon stepped closer, casually resting his hand on the van’s railing. “Everything your father left behind—the estate, the company, the inheritance—all of it belongs to Tessa now. Since I’m her mate and stepbrother, we needed you out of the way, and this was the best way to make you rot in a cell, wondering what happened.” My head spun. “You can’t go to such extremes just to get rid of me. You’re my stepbrother, Damon! We were supposed to be family!” “Oh, but we can,” Tessa interrupted smoothly. “You were never meant to have it anyway.” I froze. Her words hit me hard. “What… what do you mean?” Tessa’s smile grew, cold and cruel. “You’re not our blood. You were taken in during the Rogues War, but that was it.” She paused, her face darkening with anger. “You were never a Hart. That inheritance? It was never yours. You were included in the will, but on what grounds?” She clenched her fist. Then she smiled again. “Now, thanks to a little planning, you’ll never touch that inheritance again. And Damon? He was never really yours. Our bond was always stronger.” I felt weak. My hands trembled on the railing. My wolf was howling inside me, full of rage, and my heart ached with betrayal. “You were my step-sister! And you,” I looked at Damon, “you were my stepbrother, my mate! How could you betray me like this?” Tessa tilted her head, her smile unchanged. “Betrayal? No, dear Elena. This is mine, and I’m just taking it back.” Tessa’s gaze was steady. “You were always focused on your dreams of being a trainer and healing people. It was laughable to think you could have big dreams with my father’s inheritance. You thought you had everything when you had nothing.” As I stared at them, my blood ran cold. I wanted to scream, to fight, to tear them apart, but I couldn’t. The cuffs were too tight. I felt powerless. “Why didn’t you just contest the properties legally? If you were right, you could have won,” I asked, but Tessa just grunted. “This is how I wanted it,” she said, leaning closer. “And Damon agreed. Our forbidden bond needed a sacrifice. You.” I frowned, wondering what happened to Captain Kade. “What happened to Captain Kade?” Damon leaned in closer, letting his words sink in. “Enjoy your prison, Elena. Next time, don’t mess with the wrong people. You were just a pawn, a human-hearted wolf who never belonged.” He signaled to the guards that he was done, and they shut the doors. I sat there, staring out the small window at Tessa and Damon, now bound as mates, leaving me for dead. My chest tightened, and my throat burned. My wolf inside me trembled, desperate to be free. But I was trapped, chained, and powerless. I looked at Tessa, the sister I thought I could trust, and Damon, who I thought was my family. They betrayed me and took everything away. Everything. The van rattled along the cobblestone road, each bump sending a shiver through me. My wrists still stung from the cuffs, but the pain in my chest was worse. I kept my eyes down, wishing I could disappear. The vehicle moved quickly, and soon we arrived at the prison, where we were given uniforms. When I got to the block where I would serve my sentence, it was eerily quiet. News had spread that someone had killed the Captain, and now I would be known as the “Captain murderer.”
