Elena's POV
“You’ve got visitors waiting to see you, jailbird!” A male officer said to me, holding a baton in his hand horizontally.
I was just heading towards the canteen when he popped out of nowhere to stand in my way.
“Mhmm…” I hummed in response, watching him take the lead while I simply trailed behind him.
He walked me into the visitor room. And there they were, Cole and Nolan, the visitors he was referring to.
“You have just a few minutes to discuss whatever you think is important.” The officer spoke, turning his back to step out.
“Huh!” I let out a sigh, walking over to the narrow metal table to lower myself on the hard steel chair.
After several seconds of silence, Cole finally voiced his question, “Elena?!!! What exactly happened that night? And why didn't anyone come to your aid?”
“I can't really tell. The last thing I remembered was waking up to see the captain's body next to me on the bed. And to be sincere, I had no idea how I ended up in that room with him, let alone on the same bed.” I said.
“And?” He raised a brow, silently urging me to explain further.
“I may have lost my memory of that night, but I haven't lost my certainty that Damon and Tessa set me up. “ I continued.
“Mind your words, Elena! Those are serious accusations. How certain are you?” Cole looked like he was having a hard time accepting my words.
“They owned up to everything, and confessed their actions to me,” I said.
“What?!!!” He exclaimed, his eyes widening in disbelief.
And Nolan?
He kept his lips sealed, refusing to even say a single word. He only sat still, listening closely with his eyes fixed on me in particular.
“How could they do such a thing to you? How could they be so wicked and heartless?” Cole inquired once more.
“It was just jealousy and nothing more. They didn't want me included in the will, or to share in the inheritance.” I stared blankly at the table.
“May the moon goddess punish them. May they pay dearly for what they have done.” Cole swore under his breath, his hand tightening into a fist on the table.
“So be it…” I bowed my head slightly.
“We're really sorry for what you're facing right now, Elena. We sincerely hope you come out of this soon.” He responded on behalf of himself and Nolan. “Now we must leave quickly. This prison is quite a distance from town, and I fear we might not get back in time if we stay longer.” He added.
“Mhm…” I hummed with a nod.
“Here's what we got you, anyway.” Cole pointed at the shopping bags in the corner.
As he stood up, I rose to my feet as well to walk over to him, wrapping my arms around him in a hug, “Thank you;”
His phone rang, so we pulled away from each other. As I watched him excuse himself to take the call, I moved to grab the stuff, only to lose my footing and fall right into Nolan's arms.
He caught me by the waist anyway, stopping me from falling to stare into my eyes, his fingers pressed into my skin like he didn’t want to release me. His scent hit me hard, something darker underneath. My wolf slammed against my chest so violently I almost whimpered. My body went hot all over.
Somehow, my wolf shifted inside me for reasons I couldn't explain.
Nolan helped me stand properly, his hands cupping my cheeks as he kissed me. It was rough and desperate, like he’d been starving for it. My lips parted before I could think. His tongue brushed mine and a low sound rumbled in his throat. My wolf pushed forward so hard I felt my eyes burn for a second. I kissed him back without meaning to, fingers twisting into his shirt. The second we stopped, we were already breathing hard. My body responded strongly with my wolf sensing he could be my mate.
“ But footsteps were already approaching. We broke apart fast. Elena…I…” Nolan opened his mouth to speak.
But before he could, Cole had shown up to wave at us, both of them stepping out. He looked between us for a second too long, eyes narrowing slightly like he could smell the tension in the air. I quickly looked down at the bags, praying my face wasn’t as flushed as it felt.

“Huh!” I sighed, deciding to head back to the cell where I belonged for the time being, only to see Cole and Nole arguing.
Even so, I thought they had already left, given the time they walked out of the visitor room.
So they were still here?
I started walking towards them with the intention of separating them. But something made me freeze mid-step just when I was already close.
Close enough to eavesdrop on their conversation. Regardless, I was able to.
“She's my mate!!!” Cole didn't hold back his words. His voice was low but sharp, like he was trying not to shout. He stepped right into Nolan’s space.
Nolan didn’t back down. “No, she’s not. She is my mate!” His voice was rougher, almost a growl. “And let’s be sincere too. That’s why we came to see her. You felt it too, didn’t you? The second she hugged you, your wolf reacted.”
Cole shoved him hard in the chest. “Don’t tell me what my wolf felt. I’ve known her longer. I’ve protected her longer. You think one kiss suddenly makes her yours?”
Nolan’s eyes flashed gold for half a second before he controlled it. His fists were clenched at his sides. “The bond doesn’t care about time, Cole. She fell into my arms and my wolf recognized her. You saw how she kissed me back.”
“You bastard...” Cole started, stepping forward again like he was ready to swing.
I slapped a hand over my mouth, heart pounding so loud I was scared they’d hear it. If they shifted here… if a guard came out and saw them like this… it would be over for all of us.
He said it straight to Nolan's face.
“No, she's not. She is my mate!” Nolan objected. “And let's be sincere too. That's why we came to see her.” He added.
I became completely speechless, taking a different route so they wouldn't see me. I made my way back to the cell, having clearly lost my appetite.
My hands were shaking as I walked. Nolan’s scent was still on me on my hoodie, on my skin. Every breath I took carried him with me. My wolf was going crazy inside, pacing and whining the same word over and over
I sat on the cold floor, shutting out the voices of my fellow inmates. And while I brought my knee up to rest my chin on it, my wolf echoed inside me,
“Your mateeeee!!! Your mateeeee, Elena!!!”
But this time the word felt heavier. Because I could still feel both of them pulling at me.
