CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
JAXMy confession blankets us as Priya gazes at me. Tears glisten on her face. She’s tragically beautiful, I think. I didn’t realize I was clutching her hand to my chest until she tries to pull it away.
“Jax, can I have my hand back?”
“Oh. Right.”
She brings her hand to her chest, placing it over her own heart as if she is comparing.
“Priya!” Kara shouts from behind us. Priya turns around, finally removing herself from our bubble just in time for Kara to tackle her back to the ground.
“Thank goodness you’re okay! Ben just told me. I was distraught.” Her words are muffled as she buries her face into the nook of Priya’s neck.
“I’m okay, Kara. I’ll be okay,” Priya says.
