“Don’t leave me,” I say into sobs. “Don’t let me live. Do it. Do it now, Priya,” Kara says to me. “No!” “PRIYA, do it now,” she screams at me, kicking out uncontrollably. In a raging war between life and death, Kara barks at me ‘do it’ as I stand trembling saying, ‘don’t make me.’ Our words are drowned out as another gunshot blasts into the air. Blood starts to spurt out of Kara’s left arm. She screams and wriggles in pain. “PRIYA, PLEASE.” She weeps, and in the act of mercy and rebellion, I reach up and swipe the small scalpel across Kara’s neck. Her delicate skin rips open in a brilliant display as the hot liquid comes squirting out in every direction, soaking me. Blinded I slip and fall back, hitting my head against the concrete floor.
